I have just secured a teaching position teaching Kindergarden in C/M and this is my first position teaching this age group. I hope to focus on games on many different topics.

Do you have any games that might help me teaching ESL to this age group?

Thanks :o Pepsi

A simple game is to have 2 piles of items that have the same stuff in each pile. eg. a blue pencil, a yellow crayon, green ball etc. Good to have a couple of each item but in different colour. Then you tell each team. Get a blue pencil etc. They then run to the other end pick up the item and run back and put it on the table. Award points for this. Continue with the game till they all have at least one go. very simple and easy.

Songs are also good.eg Head, Shoulders, Knees and toes or Old MacDonald

Charades can also be a good one with teams. Take one kid out the room and show him/her a flashcard then they must mime that animal and their team has to guess. Award points.

Bare in mind that with kindergarten that you are technically a bay sitter depending on whether its K1, K2, K3 or possibly if they have one K4.

Stories with nice big pictures or ones that you can act out are really good.

Whats the time mister wolf? Is another great game that can be played with kids form K1 right up to Prathom 3.

Good luck in your new job.

If they're fairly immature (!) you don't even need to emphasize the object- just the color- make a game of "touch red!" "touch blue!" "touch green!" etc. You don'[t even need points (which can be threatening to the losers at this age) but just lots of encouragement and praise for them.

I have several close friends that are teachers of young learners and from what I've seen with what they've done in their classes with kids of this age you should concentrate on games that focus on colors and words. Another suggestion is to find an activity book that you can plan your daily classes around and as well as incorporating your own ideas to go along with the kids. A great learning method at this age is to use lots of word repetition, like songs that stress words that they use on a daily basis (like the song "if you're happy and you know....") .

Hope this helped, good luck!
