Sony is in talks with console rival Microsoft about offering a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360, according to a senior executive.

The Japanese electronics maker has until now touted Blu-ray as an advantage its PlayStation 3 holds over Microsoft’s console. Microsoft has backed Toshiba’s HD-DVD format and offered an HD-DVD drive that can be plugged into the 360.

M$ mentioned in a podcast recently that adoption rates to the HD-DVD player was very small, and they based a decision not to go with blue ray on this previous adoption rate, which always sounded crazy to me.

Personally I held out on getting an HD-DVD add-on because of the format war, I didnt want to end up with a betamax, and I don't think I was alone.

Frankly though now that there seems to be a winner I have been thinking more and more about getting a blue ray drive but the problem is all my HDMI slots have been used (with my 360 and home theatre system), so a blue ray drive for the 360 would be perfect!

I hope this happens!
