John Denver Karaoke Sparks Thai Killing Spree

It seems to me that most of the posters on this thread are justifying the killing. What a great bunch of folks on Thaivisa forum!!!

Its not justifying at all. What street wise posters are saying is that you really should take a threat in LOS as a threat, unlike the bravado filled 10 beers type of threat in the west. Doesn't make it right of course, but these poor country people have no money so "face" is their only currency. lose it and your a poor Thai with absolutely nothing

I remember a similar situation back when I was living in the Philippines. The local shop/bar bought a karaoke machine and the thing was always on Volume 11. Closing got later and later and rowdier and rowdier but no-one wanted to complain as the bar was owned by the local big-noodle's sister, or something. One night we were in bed and the thing was blaring out when we heard a very loud bang and then silence. I remember thinking to myself "that was a shotgun but I'm not getting out of bed to have a look". Found out in the morning that one of the neighbours (an ordinary bloke, actually) had just walked into the place with his shotgun and blasted the machine into a thousand pieces. Apparently, he hadn't said a word to anyone, just walked out. I don't know if he was "connected" but nothing ever happened. If he'd stood for mayor, he would have been elected with a landslide majority.

Some of the threats made by people near the new airport are indicative of how destructive noise pollution is. It has a very negative effect on the entire body, not just the mind.

The other day--on my only day off in a month, my neighbors had work being done with a jack hammer. I knew it wouldn't go on forever, but it did go on all day and by evening I was unbelievably irritable. A friend called to talk on the phone and I got p*ssed-off and hung up on him--for no good reason.

My deepest condolences to the victims for sure, but unlike a lot of the senseless killings that go in the world, this one I can understand. I don't condone it, but understand it, I do.

Its common, in a karaoke bar, wherein, a group are allowed to choose 2 songs (of course, "my way" by frank sinatra is the first )before passing the microphone to the other group. While the drank bloke is butchering the song, the other drank lad on the other table thinks, that he sings better than him, or he thinks, its an insult to the memory of frank. What happens next will definitely be fatal.Im a witness to this incident. and darn, because of that song....

I've been following this story the past week and it's a real typical Thai one isn't it. The caterwauling of someone karaoke with no concern for the neighbors. If anyone should know about the dangers of sleep deprivation, it should be a doctor. He even discussed and finally warned them that the music was driving him crazy and that he would kill them it it didn't stop (such threats are usually not made in vain or jest in LOS). Apparently they built a tall wall to protect themselves from this guy.

I was thinking why the doctor and her friends would try to reach some agreeable compromise with this fellow. Then it clicked that she was a DOCTOR and he was a lowly RUBBER TAPPER (i.e., common uneducated labourer) and it all fit into place. She and her friends wouldn't change their behavior to accommodate the needs and wishes of such a lowly person...especially as she was an educated doctor.

A sad but oh so true Thai story and had such a Thai ending too.

Yeah, true. I can see it the other way around, too. The rubber tapper is the noisy reveller and the doctor is the put-upon neighbour. In this situation, it probably wouldn't have gone as far as bloodshed as the doctor would, naturally, have the BiB on her side and they would have paid a visit to the offending party. If it had progressed to unpleasantness, the doctor would only have to rely on her solicitor portraying her in the national media as a hard-working, pillar of the community who had been put under a lot of stress by this common, uneducated and, to boot, dark-skinned person to see the full weight of the establishment behind her. Oh, and pay some money, very publicly, to the families of the bereaved and make merit very conspicuously on national TV. But then I'm a bit of a cynic...

Talking about noise pollution, I feel sorry for all you guys living up country, where the local head man decides that everyone should hear his voice blasting from tannoys all over the village at 7.30 in the morning, then letting you hear his favorite discorded Thai music. :o

Yeah, I know what you mean. It used to p*ss me off when I first got here but now I just filter it out. It's only two or three times a week and, luckily, it's around about the time we get up anyway. The nearest loudspeaker is about 200m away so it's not too bad. Even his choice of music is ok, strangely. I did contemplate toddling along to the loudspeaker post when I first arrived and cutting the wires (I wonder if any farangs have done that?) but always chickened-out. Trouble is, we're in the middle of an election for a new village head and I'm concerned about his choice of music. I mean, it might be "Country Roads"... :D

I can think of so many fun ways to get the neighbor to stop without resorting to physical harm or murder, such a shame that creativity doesn't seem to be common here in these situations.

Do please share.

Sure, why not...

Send some hardcore wierd fetish porn mags to their home and office in the mail. Do not include a name on the address label so another family member / staff member will open it, but do include a fake invoice inside with the persons name on it.

Put up flyers around town advertising their car for sale (and when i say sale, i mean 50% book value), with their address and no phone number.

:o:D:D Some night time ninja style stealth activites: :D:D:D

Toothpicks or glue in the door locks (padlocks?) on their home and cars.

Glue their gas cap on.

Deflate their tires using the air nozzles, and again, apply glue.

And now, an EXTREME measure:

Step 1

Using the yellow pages call every local business in town and schedule them to come by the house at 10AM on a day when you know the target will be off from work, preferably during the week. By every local business I mean contractors, electricians, plumbers, food delivery, movers, taxis, etc.

Step 2

A few nights before the big event, sneak over to the targets house and bury illegal items around their house in storage bins. Guns, drugs, animal/kiddie porn, and sex toys will all work well.

Step 3

Call the police at 9am on the morning of the event and give an anonymous tip that the target will be moving drugs and guns from their house in an hour, but if they hurry they can still catch them. The porn and sex toys will be a bonus.

Step 4

Call the local newspaper and TV channels at 9:30am and tell them that something big is going down at the targets address right now, and involves guns, drugs, and many police. This will add to the loss of face and also push the police do an extra thorough job.

Now pull out your lawn chair, grab a singha, and enjoy the show as the police, news, neighbors, and all the local businesses converge on this persons house between 9 - 10 in the morning. The gossip in the neighborhood will be on a scale not seen before and will ensure that the person has lost so much face that they will surely move as soon as they are released from prison. :D

What goes around, comes around.a sad story that was always going to happen here in thailand.the noise levels are incredible and thai people think they can share their music with everybody, whether they want it or not.too much of not thinking of anybody but themselves i suspect and they suffered horrific consequences due to their appaling behaviour.maybe lessons are learned by this but i doubt it.

I did contemplate toddling along to the loudspeaker post when I first arrived and cutting the wires (I wonder if any farangs have done that?)

Apparently shorting the wires is better - a thin needle through both wire cores and snipped off so it's not visible, is the trick. :o

I agree with those who are all for revenge without the killing. How about putting a garden hose through one of the windows during the night? When they finish their karaoke session, the house will be flooded and we all know what water does to wood! :o
