"limited Edition" Isuzu D-max

Hi Guys,

I got convinced by my girlfriend that we need a pickup.

I've been driving a two year old Dmax 2,5 diesel in the Chiang Rai area now and then and been impressed by the comfort and relative agile engine (4x2 drive) I also been borrowing a Vigo 3l 4x4 a few times in Hat Yai and must admit I prefer the isuzu.

I went to a Isuzu dealer who quickly grabbed my girlfriend and showed her a "pearl White" "Limited edition" in a catalog, that's about to enter the market. So now my saying means as much as rain on Songkran...

The car is a Highlander 4 door with a 3L diesel VGS Turbo 162 Hp, ABS, 4x2 drive AT.

It's one of those "Gold Series".

But the "Limited Edition" extras was suposed to be leather seats, Black wood trims, Kenwood ententainment system with DVD player, and a Omega Pearl White finish. The grill also looked different with smaller netting. Hard To explain.

I, for one, wouldn't really want a WHITE pickup! It's supposed to be a car we wouldn't have to be careful of. We drive a low sedan normally and it's really not suiteable on our trips to the north...

The dealer says, it isn't White, it's PEARL White. Doesn't really matter to me.

The thing is this package doesn't come in any other colour.

The problem was the model isn't out yet and the dealer says that they wont have a show model as it is a "Limited" edition.

What's the deal? I would really like to see the dam_n thing before I buy it.

Could someone please give me any info on the "Omega Pearl Edition"? Would it look OK?

Would YOU buy it?

I really like the color white or off white. Very practical too because of not absorbing so much heat from the sun. Unfortunately my wife likes colors so as a compromise both our car and pickup are a platinum color. Looks like pale gold to me but it is called platinum. I'm sure it will look just fine.

That sounds like a 4x2 version of my DMax GT 4x4. Mine only came in Starry Black Mica and has grey leather,NO wood trim,Chrome grill and the DVD setup. If the paintwork is anything like mine, seeing it in a showroom/photo/brochure does not do it justice. It sounds great and surely if you have test driven another 'standard' DMax and liked it, this limited edition will not be much different(only better).

The Kenwood unit retails at 36,000b alone and is fantastic. Dont forget to insist on the many extra's that are available (see previous threads on TV) and I hope you are as happy with the truck, as I am with mine.

If that colourscheme was available at the time,for 4x4, I would have chose it for sure.

The Truck sounds like a good package. My only concern is the colour pearl white.

Im happy you like the kenwood DVD player. I was a bit worried it would be something really cheap with a washed out screen that they got a good price on, since no one would buy it seperately.

I think Ill go for it.

FYI, I refuse to meet her parents and she is quite cool about that. I live in the south, but we have a lot of friends in the north. So I quess Ill be taking a bunch of them along on our trips. My BMW 325i isnt the best choice IN the mountains, only TO.

So the pickup would be used on our longer trips, I dont want to put to much milage on the bimmer. Going South to north and back is quite a few klicks...

Anyone else feel that the DMAX looks skinny and underfed? It lacks presence on the road. On the other hand the Vigo looks bloated and too curvy. Navara looks the best proportioned to me, although its design is a little conservative.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm not sure about the two choices in grills. The left has a LS bumper guard. Perhaps there are two Omega Pearl Editions. A D-Max LS and a D-Max Highlander.

Just seen the first one 'on the road.'

It looks like a 'negative' of my LS 'GT' limited edition. The white looks good and it has the same wheels as mine but black in colour. 'Omega Pearl White' stickers on the front doors for those who are colourblind and generally a good looking car. It was also the 1st VGS Dmax I have seen with a bonnet wind/bug deflector (with air duct for turbo intake)

Did you order one in the end???

Yes, I got it about 3 weeks ago.

Sorry I haven't been replying. (Been out driving...)

It a good looking pickup. Got the Highlander edition. The first thing I noticed is how much pull you get with the VGS turbo compared to old Isuzu pickups. It runs really well.

I ordered a rollbar from bangkok. Had to be special order beeing a limited edition colour.

When it finally arrived it was the wrong colour... It was just plain white.

It wasn't the shops fault. I was sitting with them as they placed the order. It was Carryboy BKK.

Anyways, got my money back and will try to order it again...

I change the tires and rims aswell. It looks great now!

It's funny how much people stare! Parking outside the bank I had like 6 thai guys taking pictures with their mobiles...

If I would drive a Aston Martin or some exotic limited edition sportscar, the thais wouldn't really stare, but a bloody pickup... hehe...

Isuzu told me they would only make 400 cars in this edition, but I guess if it sells well they'll make more.

Anyway, happy songkran guys...

I have seen a spares calalogue for Dmax at my dealers and it has most things in it that were standard on our model truck plus an extra chrome strip for the rear tailgate. I was given one of those 'carpet runners' for the dash and threw it away!! I have added reversing sensors (x4) and I think that was a good improvement. They even glow blue when activated . Carryboy seem to be the marketleaders for back-boxes and can be obtained from nearly all traders.

Thanks for the reply. I agree a dash cover made of carpet would be an eye sore. However if I could find one made of leather matching the dashes cover I might consider it. I've considered the reversing sensors and/or the reversing camera. Is it just me but I have trouble guaging distance with the left and right rearview mirrors ??

I have Never seen or heard of Leather/Vinyl covers. If I really wanted same, I would make a template and get one 'custom' made by a Leather merchant (Shoe repairer or Motorcy seat shop ??). As long as the Grey colour matched, I might be interested in one too.

I don't use the mirrors when reversing. I suppose it how you have been taught, I always shift my bum to the right and turn around and use my eyes. After 30yrs driving, that ain't going to change now LOL. I considered a camera (Isuzu quoted 30k!! BTW) but could not see anywhere suitable on the pick-up. Number plate makes the bumper a no go and didn't like the idea of it in the centre of the tailgate but thats IMHO.

I saw one of the Pearl white limited edition D max's at a showroom today and I have to say I loved it and I have never been a fan of the D max.

I had my heart set on the Triton plus (actually agreed to buy one till the idiot salesman started changing the price and specs so we walked) but my wife said we just needed a 2nd hand truck so we have been tooing and froing for a week. We got an English Bulldog puppy this week and this morning my wife went off with a car mag. She said she was going to sort out the truck. When I questioned this she said with that sweet Thai smile. No honey you chose the dog so I choose the truck and we are having a Dmax not a triton! I had to admire her guile but my revenge was phoning her to tell her about the pearl white one and to bring home a brochure! We are going to look at it tomorrow morning.

Situations like this can be easily resolved i think. Have you heard the expression "you pay your money, you make your choice"? Your money, your choice. Equally if it's her money, it's her choice. If you are sharing the costs it does get trickier, but if it were me, i'd simply ask her if she'd like it if i were to interfere next time she goes out to buy a frock, but that's just the mc pig in me.
