Shopping for aircons...need 2 small units and only use them 2 hrs/night in the hot weather, so don't want to spend too much for all the nanobells and whistles. Just want a reliable unit and found the Haier for 50% less than the jap name brands, but would like to hear other's experiences with "haier'....a relatively new brand on the Thai market but offers 5 yr warantee on motor and compressor.

Hi,

Haier is one of the largest consumer goods manufacturers in China and it has been in the airconditioning business for quite some time now. Not quite cutting edge stuff but aircon technology has changed much over the years. Look for a unit with inverter technology... saves you a bunch of money (electricity bills) in the longer run..

Well it's Chinese. Not sure why you would prefer that over a proven brand like Mitsubishi.

Note that the biggest difference between cheap brands and the likes of Mitsusbishi is the noise.. Low noise = more comfort and better sleeping.

I just did a 'google' and confirmed that 'Haier' is a global name and if i can save 50% and get a 5 yr warantee that the big jap names offer, then it's a no brainer. still would like to hear some feedback from other 'Haier' users to confirm. bottom line [from their web presence], they won't fold tomorrow and the company that has them on promotion has been around for many years and offers 2 yrs service, free. As I said in my OP, I just want a simple cooler without all the nano bells and wistles.

There was a progam devoted to this particular brand of aircon on Australian on TV a few weeks ago.

I don't recall all the details but the units where causing some concern to the authorities.

As you mentione they are cheaper but you only get what you pay for, There are plenty of good used reliable brand named units advertised in the local rags every week. A better bet for sure. Good luck and play it cool.

Find out what compressor is used in the Haier units

If it's a decent compressor(ie- Japanese), than go with the Haier

It doesn't matter where the unit is made, if it had good components, that's what matters

Go for it.

Haier is a Multi-Billion $ company with more than 50.000 people -worldwide- and expanding fast into the western world with exports to 100 countries or so.

They delivered to a few hundred million households in China all kinds of stuff like refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers, microwave ovens, gas stoves, washing machines and other household electrical appliances.

Haier is VERY BIG and makes a good product.

Besides...the Japanese have their products made in China and shipped to Japan.... :o

edit:

Some company facts: with a 2005 turnover of RMB 103 Billion (some € 10 Billion or US $ 15 Billion) Haier is not a small company. Listed both in Shanghai and Hong Kong on the stock markets.

recall something myself. Could it be the stated electrical consumption is purely ficticious and bears no relation to the real electrical consumption?
