A couple nights ago I thought my AIS EDGE had gone the way of Crapstar. It slowed down to the point that it was not usable. So VERY slow. The next day it was the same. I connect my Nokia to a USB port with a data cable. I have noticed that once in a while the computer hangs up but does not crash. After it sits for a while it starts working again. Advanced Windows Care Pro shows no problems. BitDefender doesn't find anything and Spy Sweeper say the system is clean. I have blocked most of the programs that start automatically. The Windows task manager shows the CPU working at 100 percent when the desktop stalls. I have run Winsock repair and TCP/IP repair with no changes at all. The computer has a 2.66 Celeron processor and a gig of RAM.

I am now using my lap top and it works fine, EDGE is zipping along very well. The lap top works great and the desktop doesn't.

I found the problem and all is well. I suspected the CPU had a problem. I downloaded a little free program called Process Lasso. It shows what the CPU is doing and distributes the load if the CPU is overloaded. I found that the problem was my BitDefender Plus V10. I had all the settings set for maximum protection and it was using all of the CPU. After I set all the parameters to default everything is back to normal. I actually don't remember changing the settings.

Ain't "getting old" wonderful? :D

Well, at least the memory part isn't painful. The big problem comes when you think you can still do things as if you were young. The decrepit old body lets you know the next day that it will no longer put up with that foolishness. Actually the second day after getting stupid is much worse than the next morning. It still beats the alternative. :o

Similar thing happened my with camera's memory card - the AV couldn't process it and it wouldn't let Windows to register and use it for something like ten minutes. Works ok with on-Access protection paused.

I remember walking a looooong way down the beach one day .. got tired then remembered I had to walk back. I think it took me a week to recover.

I've shortened my walks.

I don't drink any longer .. serious gout problems. I guess getting old was good for my liver. :D
