March 22, 200818 yr Can I say a belated Happy Easter to all who frequent TV in general, those in Bedlam in particular and everybody else just for the Craic These are the days of Holy Week The Days of Holy Week And the Pope made a decree in banning Paddy's Day, we had to celebrate it earlier, oh yeah! Holy Week and St Patricks Day Robbo has asked me to deliver his own Easter wishes to you all, as he is otherwise indisposed. Kayo and Jangles and all in Bedlam notably mentioned in Dispatches. Good Luck Moss
March 23, 200818 yr Let's get egged up! And remember that, as sure as egg is eggs: Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Avoid having egg all over your face, even if you're an egghead, and refrain from attempts to teach your grandmother to suck eggs, especially not the ones you have laid. Apologies for the eggocentric post. I'll get my egg cosy.
March 23, 200818 yr Beat it smeadish !!! Don't try and poach a topic......Me and our resident Benedict often crack a few shells at each other, I was only yolking !!!
March 23, 200818 yr if anyone wants to send to send me an egg they can pm me.... And that pope putting paddys day back is a bit of a plonker.
March 23, 200818 yr Tiggs, explain the eggs ? Surely chocolate would have melted in Palestine ? Sorry mate, in true Christianty there is no Easter or Easter eggs! Simply borrowed from Pagan festivals! Easter not mentioned in the Bible! Ooops, am I shattering illusions?
March 24, 200818 yr > Pagan festivals! Easter not mentioned in the Bible! I believe that most of the Christian Festival dates were in fact based on pre-Christian, "pagan" or other feasts, I was reading recently that Easter is based on the date of a Jewish festival and that the lunar calendar is referenced quite a lot. With the corrections in calendar years the birth of Christ should be in September sometime(?), so he wasn't a Capricorn after all. The eggs at Easter is a pagan symbol of rebirth and renewal - simply Spring Worship, and rabbits a symbol of fertility. I have seen these icons used in temples in Burma as well, however whether that is traditional or not I am uncertain as these days with world media getting un-poluted culture is difficult. This link is interesting if only as a good story. They knew there was this guy in a white beard and a red suit, and they knew there was a religious angle, the result was little Santa Clauses on crucifixes. "We celibrate his life with mince pies and port wine", is this so different from taking the Eucharist? In this modern age I am almost surprised that it is not offered as Garlic Bread and a swig of Thunderbird from a brown paperbag.
March 24, 200818 yr Saved me a heap of money that post...." You want what !! Off to bed you pagan "" That's the spirit!

That's true that is, all the Christian festivals are borrowed from the 'religions' round about where Christianity grew. There are actually no Christian festivals detailed in Scripture, all of them were added. That's why I don't celebrate any! (I'm not just bah humbug) Jesus was most likely born in September, I'd like to think Yom Kappur, born on the day of atonement died at Passover - it would make sense. I will check the link later.
