Drug Treatment By Monks

Featured Replies

I heard on talkback radio a documentary about a drug rehab centre in Thailand run by monks.

Apparently farangs or anyone addicted can go there for a donation.

The monks give the addicts a black jelly like substance continually, this apparently makes them vomit.

Does anyone know what this black stuff is.?

.,...correction sorry i was thinking of getting off booze course....my friend went on that Heroin course back in the 70's but don't know what the black stuff is....it helped him get off H......never know might be the same thing have to drink some really awful stuff which makes you vomit a lot but i beleive it can be dangerous and i doubt the western docs would recomend ..if it is the same its used quite widely in Issaan....my missus wanted me to get on it for booze,....i said no way jose,....got off booze by not socialising,.....thats why i'm a miserable git ...

You might be talking about Wat Thamkrabok. I am an ex-patient and would never hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is serious about quiting an addiction. The medicine is an emetic and it is part of the detox process. Many alcoholics and addicts regularly puke their guts up so it would seem to be a bit silly for this to put you off going there. The medicine speeds up the detox process and from my own personal experience I can confirm that it works. This was also confirmed by others who were coming off other addictions while I was there. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me.

I have a couple of friends who successfully gave up alcohol abuse at that temple, after falling off the wagon with 12-step programs multiple times. One stopped booze at Tam Krabok 11-12 years ago, still sober today, while the other did the program a year and a half ago, also still sober last I saw him a month ago.
