Psi Satellite Frustrations

Featured Replies

A friend had his DP303 top box software completely corrupted by what we suspect was interference from a DVD remote control unit. He called in a PSI service technician, may just as well given it to his 3 yo daughter to play with. We took a drive to the main office in Udon Thani, should have headed straight to the pub.

Anyway, we decided to have a go at it ourselves and collected as much info we could, made up a RS232 comms cable and after a day and half of frustrations managed to get the software copied from a good box to his. The Thai written word on the procedure is absolute crap but at least we are off and running.

We are now trying to load the latest HEX file and here in lies our problem:- We cannot establish comms between ANY (we have 3 top boxes on hand) DP303 and the COM1 (RS232) port on ANY computer with the PSI dvbeditor.exe installed. Just get as far as “Waiting for connection” which indicates the software has found COM1 but no recognition of the DP303. We are still using the simple 3 core cable although we have tried many variations up to a fully wired (handshake) null modem cable, we have tried various baud rates, data bits, parity bits etc. which IMHO should not be necessary in this day and age. We have tried the 3 DP303 modes of operation; Normal, Load and Standby.

Help on the procedure to do this would be welcomed.

Thank you.
