...Should I try another immigration office?

Yes. The people working at that immigration office do not seem to know how to apply the requirement for "proof of other income from authority concerned" under paragraph 7.17 of the Royal Thai Police Order No. 606/2549 as applicable in your case. At every other immigration office it is the embassy letter, which you have.

Maestro

That is what I figured. How or what is the correct way to tell the officers at immigration they are wrong and this farang is right? A sticky situation best to be avoided I think. So I'll go to Jomtien next time. Thank you very much

Initial extension experience today at suan phlu (office will move to chaeng watthana in Juli he said):

1. Copy pages from passport (Non Imm :o.

2. copy of Wife ID & tabien bahn.

3. copy of Marriage Cert (4 pages for the thai version).

4. TM 7 with 1 ID photo attached (2" * 2") . (Form filled by agent - I suppose reason for extend is 'support wife')

5. Map. (hand drawn with address & phone numbers)

6. Photos (front of house showing number + 4 more various with me/wife/baby inside house).

7. copy of Child's Birth Certificate & tabian bahn (both child & wife tabien bahn shows different address than mine which didn't seem to mean anything).

8. Copy of declaration from embassy that 'income is more than 40,000thb', but they inquired what was actual income in foreign currency & exchange rate & then put down the amount in the papers during interview!)

Interview felt lengthy, but wife said it was quick! I suppose within 20-30min (I think 2 pages for each of us was answered & noted down by the officer. He seemed to follow common process & asked the dreaded question whether I 'was with wife' previous night, but no further details & thus no need to sue!!

Got 30day stamp as well as re-entry (needed for trip next week) & was told could get back for answer at 30day or few days before, but can send agent or other person on our behalf which I will for sure - it's not that fun down there ;-)

Cheers!

Does Embassy Certification of Monthly Income need to be new each year? I got a letter from the US Embassy last year when I initially applied and received my Married to Thai Visa extension. Can this same letter be reused or must I return to the embassy and get a newly issued letter?

What if you do not have a salary but have funds from investments abroad? From the Immigration site stated in this thread, it says proof of 400,000 deposited in a Thai bank account is applicable but some posters say they want to preferably see a 40,000 baht income. How does one get a notarisation on proof of income on salary from the embassy when one is not employed but has sufficient funds every year to live here?

1. Embassy letter should be fresh each year from latest reports - but they may accept last years/keep it so you can give it a try - just be prepared that you might have to get a new one.

2. 400k has not been acceptable for new family extensions of stay since publication of Police Order 606/2006 - requirement is 40k family income (can be from husband or wife or both). You would provide paperwork or make declaration to your Embassy and hope that they will allow it. Your tax payments would probably work.

I am a little confused as why folk are presenting 90 day report slip on extensions of visa's?. I always thought the two were not connected.

My 90 day report is due a week before I plan to go to immigration and renew my retirement extension. I will mail my 90 day report as usual. If they do ask, I will show them EMS receipt(proof of posting) and do a photocopy of previous notification slip.

I did think of doing it at the counter but some recent reports of the lengthy waiting times at Suan Phlu put me off. (extensions + 90 day reports)

First extension of stay is regarded as first 90 day report - after that they are independent but they allow 7 day on either side so that you can (try) to make it match up with annual extension of stay visit one time each year. As you, I don't bother. But as extension does not have to be done on a specific day it can be helpful for some to make one less trip. Recent 90 day reporting at Suan Plu have been reported as very fast.

IME immigration checks your status, on their computer, before accepting the application

for extension. Therefore it is necessary to be up to date on your 90 day reporting.

The receipt is proof if there is any doubt.

That's a lot of hoops to jump through ... Too young for retirement visa ?

I assume you are joking about the sex thing as hopefully no official could be that boorish.

Naka.

Naka yes they are. They are a dirty filthy rude lot who don't give a toss about your feeling . The most inappropriate things they ask you are just disgusting. Like when I was registering my marriage some time ago the officer asked, Why do you love your wife? I mean all I really want to do is punch their filthy mouths off their stupid heads.

No inappropriate questions were asked when I applied first time for the "Thai wife" visa. Since then (10 years ago), never needed another interview during my yearly visit at the immigration.

Hmmm!! Have you been to Suan Phlu recently??. I cannot recall an immigration officer using a computer to check my status where I live for a retirement extension last year.

They just pull out your case number file and look at what you did last year, especially for proof of income. Have the desks been fitted with computers since my last visit?.

If thats the case, hats off for progress.

They were using computers the last two years at Suan Phlu during my retirement extension visits - there was a special desk set up where all files were checked prior to front line processing approval (July 06 and Jun 07). It was not done at the application desk.

haha yeah interview desks still stacked pile high with papers & no computers in sight I assure you - so as said checking is handled at seperate desk :o

I had a taxi driver telling me about his sexual preferences yesterday (he's never had a blowy from a Katoey but has heard they are very good) and that was more than enough for me. Having a <deleted> in brown talking dirty to my wife would be completely unnacceptable.

Helloo all! I went to Suan Plu earlier this month for my first 1-year extention of stay based on marriage. Thank you especially Jackbox and Lopburi3 for your help regarding the documents required. The application went well, no questions about embarrassing intimate question for myself and my husband (perhaps because I'm marrying a thai man, which holds different unwritten rule compared to marrying a thai woman??).

The interview was fairly quick. The officer asked me to go away from her desk so she interviewed my husband first. She asked general questions like (not in the same order):

(1) Your parents still alive?

(2) How long you know each other before you married?

(3) Do you have any child?

(4) What is your religion?

(5) What's your husband's income? (She asked him what's my income too, and wrote everything on a 2-sided A4 forms)

She took some pictures of the house (where we posed together) but she did not take any picture from the wedding.

We did not have a expert google-earth map of our house (not so expert like Jackbox's :o). But a hand-drawn map in Thai was sufficient, which she also took.

We will go to Suan Plu again next month for the hearing. Wish us luck! And I'll post more info here later.
