Been hearing various reports/rumours of Tesco Lotus planning to build/open a Tesco Metro in Thongsala (on the road to Sri Thanu where the old wood shop used to be) and a large Tesco Lotus in Mathawan. Anyone know the facts?

Maybe the same size as the one in Nathon, not really huge, can't loose your children there like in the Chaweng branch . :o

Matawan (I'm sure my spelling is off, sorry) is the area when you take the main Chaloklum Road north from Thongsala (under construction just now - road widening) - just before the big bend to the left ...

Construction has already started on the Tesco site in Thong Sala. I haven't heard anything about a second Tesco's on the Chaloklum road.

Work progress site Tesco Lotus in Thongsala, Ko Phangan, at the street to the hospital and wandakien, they said should be finish in 6 month, when they started two months ago. It is quiet a big site and as the photo shown, it will be a smaller Tesco Lotus but it could have the size of the one in Samui.

There have bin some big adds along some street, white big plastics with red letters (in Thai of coarse) saying something like, phangan people don't need lotus and on at all those adds the denying sentence was cut off. But everybody except the local shop's (I guess) are happy about it. So then happy spending

I think you might be right on this one. Koh phagnan has a population of 13000 people and the big crowd (full moon monkeys) dont exacly use tesco lotus, so it is a fair assumption that a tesco in the dirthole pagnan will not be much bigger than a 7/11 in the main island samui. :D

Actually, Mattias, last I heard (from the Kamnan of Ban Tai) was that while the local registered population is around 8000 people the island probably has around 20,000+ people living there.

Mattias, Samui is a bigger dirthole than Phangan, I believe(more people=more dirt). And we are very happy about Tesco here. Finally the shopowners on Koh Phangan have to take real prices instead of their fantasyprices. And in highseason there are about 50000 people here. Tesco will be pretty busy here and they wouldn't build here without checking out first. So it will be big and nice and cool inside. Thank you Teso!!!

Well, different estimations by different people. Allthough the unregistered people can only be assumed, i beleive you. Still you have to consider that a branch the size of samuis big tesco requires probably that amount per day, and that will not happen in pagnan. My guess is it will of course be way smaller than samui, but still possitive for you guys to get a tesco there.

Btw, do tesco have the same prices all over Thailand or are they more expensive on the islands, due to freightcosts and so on? Anybody know?

Off wich 45000 there only for the full moon and probably will not bother visiting tesco??

I agree that a company like tesco probably (most lightly) have some kind of market investigations before opening, and they off course see pagnan as a interessting place to be, otherwise they would not build there as you say. On the other hand, big c who opened in samui less than a year ago would have the same. Have not heard any results, but my personal oppinion is it looks quite empty everytime i am there...

Interestingly the Samui Tesco's prices I saw over Songran were quite a bit cheaper than both the Krabi Tesco and my local one here in Yat Yai, at least for the items I usually buy. I was quite surprised as I would have thought otherwise because of the "Island" factor.

mattias, do not worry, believe it or not, they are going to open a BIG C here as well and I think it's going to end up the same as in Samui. Any thoughts? Empty stores.... full books? Just a thought...lol

Last I heard, the BigC was just a rumor, the deal has not been finalized.

As for the Tesco Lotus, looking at the site, I can't imagine it will be as huge as the one on Samui, but as long as they have a dunkin donuts and a Watson's I don't care :o

sbk, is there a Mc Donald's coming, do u know?

only rumors, supposedly there is going to be one in the new big building in Hadrin, but I will believe it when I see it. ....

but most certainly not eating it! :o Mcdonalds!

(sorry if you like it frankman, but I would prefer a Boots :D )

yeah defo no homepro and it looks much too small for any KFC, mcdonalds or dougnuts, but very welcome anyway, i rekon its gotta be same as nathon express

Seeing the construction site, it seems to me that Tesco will be like the Nathon one, but with a wide land around, may be for future developments or for a huge car parking.

Ah, what about the rumors about the construction of a BIG C too??

And what about the big, long story, unfinished, so called shopping center-hotel in Haad Rin, close to Tommy Resort??

think you're right small tesco but a big area is probably for the furure,, let's hope that that future is not to far away so we get a bit more normal prices.

They are building and refining so quickly! I can believe the open in july (may be the end)

it is just a hall, nothing special, roof already fixed, some white color, little finishing, filling up the and open. Could fit to July.
