The go to the kennel to stay for a few days. They (somewhat perversely) love it there and when he get back into town we have 2 tired, happy and freshly bathed puppies!

Our sitters come from all over the world, last year a Thai couple from Ubon looked after our house and pets here in Australia, and a swiss couple looked after our dog when we were in singapore, Nignoy

I take the cat with me; so far she has been either by plane or car to:

Buriram

Surin

Samui

Phuket (by car and by plane)

Hua Hin

Pattaya every weekend

Cambodia (gambling)

She loves riding in the car, and just have to take a box of litter which she can use early morning or late at night.... the hotels mostly find out after the fact, and don't seem to mind so long as they don't discover her feverish scratching of their furniture.

Unfortuntely don't have a picture of senor whiskery cat to show you here, but she loves the car and almost refuses to get out of it if given the chance.

Used to take her to the beach and she would wait around for me, but now a bit risky as I go out for 8-9 hours at a time so she stays in the room.

If going longer, family look after her or I might consider OZONO which is in Bangkok and has a cat spa.

I bring them with me if at all possible. The cat, in particular, has serious abandonment issues and reacts badly to separation.

When that is not possible, I have someone I know and trust come in to house/pet sit. I used to have a fellow who would also do yard work and house repairs do it, which worked fine for a while but the cat, who was never fond iof him (and vice versa, \ truth be told) has developed a strong dislike of him now so no longer can do (she'll stop eating and tear her hair out), which is making life increasingly complicated...not only do I have to have a pet/house sitter but it has to be people the cat knows and likes. But not all cats are this difficult. Some can even be left alone with someone coming in daily to put out fiod and change their litter etc.

Steve..tell me about OZONO and the cat spa!!!! Do they have a website? What is the cat spa? ARe this people really trust worthy? Do you think they could handle a cat as complicated and sensitive/tempermental as mine?

I wanted to have dogs as pets all my life, but it is only in recent years that the conditions were right for me to 'responsibly' own dogs.

I would never put my dogs in kennels, and I would never leave them with strangers.

I have 2 maids and other family who are all used to to feeding and taking care of my pets when I am away. If this wasn't the case I wouldn't have acquired them in the first place.

I know this isn't possible for some people, an they must do the best they can, but for me it is a pre-requisite to owning dogs. I want my dogs to stay at home and be loved and played with every day.

Cats are a different matter and can be left alone, provided they are fed. But even then they become stressed and miss their owners.

Our maid always stays at our home when we go away - Anyone else would be too scared to take care of our dogs. Sending our dogs to a kennel is not an option, plus we've also got our fish, birds, turtle and snake that also need looking after:P

There are a few very trustworthy kennels that I have found in Chonburi.

Other than that, I would have someone stay with them.

I guess it depends where in Thailand you are located.

Placed a soi dog that adopted me in the care of what I thought was a reliable adult person during my last prolonged absence. Get back, ask where is sparky, A: oh sorry, dog have accident, die. Q: How?. A It get run over. Q How? A:I don't know. ...............Wonderful. Needless to say, Braniac is on my sh*t list for eternity, especially since he was being paid a per diem rate and Sparky mysteriously died 2 days before I arrived, yet no one recalls seing him around.

Pick wisely.
