Winai plays down coup speculation

BANGKOK: -- Defence permanent secretary General Winai Phattiyakul on Tuesday pleaded for calm as he saw no conditions to warrant a military intervention, dismissing the prophecies by two astrologers that the country might plunge into a political mayhem triggering a coup.

"Although any warning should be heeded, I believe all sides can find a best way to resolve their differences," he said in reference to the debate on constitutional changes.
