I have had to delay getting my retirement visa for a couple of legitimate reasons. My double-entry tourist visa that I obtained last November will expire on the 23rd of April and I need to get a plan in order to obtain another double-entry TV. I have read the posts about Vientiane, Laos being the best place at this time to accomplish this. But, I will be going to Koh Chang after Songkran and was thinking that it would be easy to travel to Cambodia from there rather than traveling all the way to Vientiane before returning to Chiang Mai. I have searched the posts in this forum and see quite a few posts from members who have reported going to Cambodia and using a third-party, i.e. Jacks Golf. I assume that most of these posts were from members who just needed to stamp out at the border and then back in to Thailand the same day. I was not able to locate any detailed information about applying for a tourist visa in Cambodia. Maybe I did not use the search function properly – I don't know.

Can anyone please comment 1) is a double-entry tourist visa possible in Phnom Penh? and; 2) is it a process which I can accomplish myself fairly easily?

If it is too complicated, time consuming, and/or unlikely to result in success, then I will just travel to Vientiane. Thanks in advance for any information members have to offer.

1. Not likely.

2. Not likely.

Phnom Penh had not been considered a good place to obtain visas for several years but some have reported getting single entry but none/few have reported that it was a positive experience. Most people give it a miss so perhaps without the workload they may get a bit better than previously - please advise feedback if you try them.

Vientiane has been the only local location when 2 entry was normally provided - but last report did cast a negative light on it as business is now so great that a single entry may be all you get (but this is only one report so far).

"I obtained last November will expire on the 23rd of April"????

say you got one nov 1 you get 60 days to say jan 1 then extend 30 days imig feb 1??

out and back 60 days april 1, then 30 days ext may 1, then ya can do 2/3 border runs???

thats if

1, ive added it up right

2, youve done the above

so if ya in koh chang after sonkran (i am also by the way) ya should be able nip border then a month or 2 after go laos!!

Thanks as always for your prompt and invaluable advice lopburi3. I think I'll pass and head for Vientiane. Even a single-entry TV will help me at this time. I will be in a position for the Retirement Extension soon, so 60-90 days will be sufficient.

Chris, I could not get a 30 day extension on my first entry because the Thai Embassy in Prague where I applied for my visa in Nov. 2007 took more than three weeks to approve my application. When I finally got the visa it was dated the day I submitted the application which meant I would have only been entitled to a five day extension on my first entry (for 1900 Baht), so I passed on that! I have not used any of my 30 day exemptions yet. I suppose that I could go to Mae Sai to do that. Just looking for better options. Thanks for your input. Have a nice time in Koh Chang!

Before anyone asks: you would have been eligible for a 30 day extension of stay regardless - it is just that you would not have been able to use the 30 days and still enter on your second entry within the 90 day validity of the visa.

Yes lopburi3 you are absolutely correct - as always. I tried to correct/amend that follow-up post after thinking about it, but the edit function was no longer available.

I received a 3 entry tourist visa in Phnom Penh in March of this year. However, I don't think this would be possible for everyone.

Getting a single entry would have been no problem but the clerk put up an argument when I asked for 3. She said I had already spent too long in Thailand. I then pointed out that I had actually been coming and going, not staying constantly, and that I had only used 2 of the 3 entries allowed on my previous visa, which was issued in Beijing and expired last October. She only took a few seconds to look at my passport, so she could not have examined it very thoroughly, but she grudgingly said OK. Not sure if she looked at my old visa or just noticed multiple stamps for the Philippinbes mixed in with the ones for Thailand. I also made a point to wear slacks and a nice shirt. Not sure if that helped, but I guess it did not hurt.
