Two South Korean Women Found Dead On Larn Island

That Tarai beach where they were found is not at all a normal designated beach and no form of taxi transport drops tourists off there

whatsoever. It is a rocky, brushy area about half way up on the left when going from Nabon boat pier to Nual beach on the South point. I cannot believe a couple of Korean girls would just go there. It doesnt even look like a beach from the road.

Actually I think Ray Charles could see what really happend.

...holding hands in Asia doesn't neccessarily imply lesbianism or homosexuality...

If this were the case then the majority of Thai females would be lesbian and a good number of Thai males homosexual too.. :o

I agree with the posters who say that we don't really do not know what happened. The way that this has been handled is of course suspect. I have a little experience in this area so red flags appear all over the place with every official press release. To close this case so quickly is very suspicious. Why is it that so often in Thailand there are the overly convoluted double suicide pacts that turn into murder suicides? Everyone should pause and just think for a minute aboutvhow stupid the Thai police think the public (that includes us) is perceived to be.

Ripping a page out of a passport obviously does not mean the victims were trying to hide their identity. Even in developing counties like Thailand the police can scan the passport to see to whom it belongs. Why bring the passport(s) at all?

What about the possible forensic evidence gathered at the scene that led to the report of a double murder? How are those autopsies going and what did they reveal? Drowning? Death by blunt force trauma? Alcohol and/or drugs? Found anything in the residence or hotel room that would lead the police to believe these two women were about to kill themselves? Outstanding local debt? Medical problems? Past behavior that would give an indication as to whether or not suicide was in the cards? What is on their computers? Any emails regarding the women wanting to end it all? Suicide websites? Mobile phone records including test messages? What do their friends and acquaintances have to say one way or the other?

These qustions are only a small portion of a complete investigation. Like someone else said, if these two women were from Australia, England or even America, etc. this would be front page news worldwide. Twin 28 year old women from almost anywhere else would get the publics attention they deserve.

Personally, I will be satisfied if Dr. Pornthip Rojanasunan tells us what happened. Until then the case is still open.

Investigation closed in the Korean death case from Larn Island.

The parents of the deceased have reviewed the evidence and agree with the current Police theory which is backed up with toxicology reports and post mortem results. Police have now closed the case.

If it's true (what Pattaya City News wrote) and the parents agreed with the "current Police theory" who are we to judge that the case is still open ?

Maybe there's more to it but if the parents won't reveal what they know (the twins' 2 years in Thailand, for instance) there is not much left and we'll never know what happened on that remote piece of Koh Larn's shoreline.

The parents' grieve and sorrow must be immense. To lose a child is beyond anyone's imagination who didn't experience the same, but to lose 2 daughters at the same time is immensely tragic, especially under these circumstances and so far away from their home country.

Maybe the twins RIP :o

It seems that every time I log on to Thaivisa this year, there's another set of RIP posts regarding murdered tourists here.

I have been harboring an uneasy feeling that the fact the Thai populace are encouraged to think of 'farang' as automata merely to be fleeced, (didn't Toxin say it was every Thai's duty to get as much money out of tourists as possible?, or words to that effect), together with the rampant xenophobia encouraged by their rulers, to keep them in their incredibly ignorant place, that's making some people here think that it's not such a big deal to bludgeon/shoot/rape someone they are encouraged to look down on. The fact that the present government seem to be a bunch of nak reang louts just adds grist to the mill.

I was there on the day they were found. In fact my family and I were sunning ourselves not far from that beach. At the end of the day we packed up and went home on the ferry.

Guess how many extra police we saw? Guess how many times we were asked for I.D or for our whereabouts on a small island that was the scene of a possible double murder? THAT'S RIGHT. NOT ONCE!

This is a joke. A sick joke.

In the Bangkok Post today a local police chief (it says so on his coffee cup) said they spent 30 minutes on the scene.

30 MINUTES! Holy Cover Up Batman! They kicked over a couple of stones and called it a day.

I hope my life is worth more that that.

My next point is where is the press coverage in the Post or Nation. A few weeks ago when a european lady was killed Samak was on the front page calling for no stone to be left unturned. Maybe it's because they are Korean.

This is just too crazy. Why on earth, other then to save face, would Thailand cover up this crime. Everyone should know of this prior to coming to Thailand so people will be careful. This type of thing has been happening every month, or more. Way so much now ? Sick sick country .... Totally out of control

SOURCE: Pattaya City News: April 11th 2008

...one of the women had died after her head was smashed against a stone.

It is then thought the body was dragged into the water and the second woman who is thought to have killed her, tied her hands together with the victim and it is thought she then committed suicide by drowning, using the weight of the dead woman to pull her under the water.

This "newspaper" shouldn't even be in a toilet for wiping your backside on. It is the paper equivalent of an Internet troll - it writes rubbish to attract publicity and - they hope - to attract buyers.

Quotes from it should be banned from this forum just as trolls are.

Seconded!

I know the news is quite conflicting - but I do think it is NEWS because how many people do you know that kill themselves by bashing their own skulls on the rocks and tying their hands behind their backs....or whatever they did. :o

It is common in Japan and Korea to suicide by binding hands and then jumping into water. After drowning one may suffer additional injuries: e.g. hitting against rocks before being swept onto shore

Double suicides are also common.

Hence I still think the twins angle must be the main object of interest?

As a previous poster mentioned, there are thousands of other points of evidence that can be found to try to piece together evidence of a suicide.

Many even, it has been known, leave a note!

Self inflicted drowning, must be the most uncommon form of suicide in the world. Obviously they have found some Reggie Perrin DVD's without Thai subtitles..

Not related to this thread, but I think only a certain kind of tourists/expats would say or believe that prostitutes are Thailand's greatest commodity. I'm glad if my government raises their immigration standards to weed some unwanted people out.

ThNiner, I do not mean to insult the your country, but you inferred, " prostitutes..,"

I wrote,"sexually available" women and if you think a large proportion of tourists and residents aren't drawn here for the attractive , willing and sexually available women, well I just think I think you're wrong.

And I do think Thailand is a sex for hire destination, too. Can you honestly deny it has that reputation, internationally? I have had friends not want to travel here because of this stigma.

Will you allow the point that Thai women are a great asset to the country, and I will retreat on the " greatest commodity " statement ?

Friends?

CHONBURI POLICE COMMISSIONER PUZZLES THE DEATH OF TWO KOREAN WOMEN

Police commissioner of Chonburi province and his team have inspected the crime scene where the two Korean women were found dead on Koh Larn (Coral Island) but still cannot clarify if they had committed suicide or were murdered.

At present, there is still no indication to the cause of the death of the victims, whose bodies were found at Tha-Rai beach on Koh Larn. Officers from the Korean Embassy of Thailand and Korean police had come to identify that the victims, Miss Park Ji Hee and Miss Park Mi Hee (28) were twins. Korean officials were not convinced that they had committed suicide or killed each other like Pattaya police had suspected.

Besides, the picture in the passport of Miss Park Ji Hee was torn out and the passport was left in her shoulder bag which was dumped into the woods about 100 meters away from the body, there were wounds on one of the victim's forehead and face consistent with being hit by a hard object.

On April 15, 2008, at 5pm, Pol.Maj.Gen.Bandit Khunajak, Chonburi commissioner, Pol.Col.Thana Yuttithamdamrong, Deputy commissioner, Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya superintendent, Pol.Lt.Col.Sumet Harnwisai, the Pattaya investigator and his team have spent 30 minutes inspecting the scene of the incident once again. Pol.Maj.Gen. Bundit revealed that many witnesses on the Island had said that the victims were wandering around the Island without using Baht-Bus or Motorbike Taxi’s. However, police found out that they had been renting an apartment in Chiangmai for the past 2 years. They recently arrived in Pattaya and were staying at a hotel in Soi Buo Khao, South Pattaya.

On April 10th , they took a 9 o'clock ferry from Bali Hai Pier to Koh Larn and were found dead the next morning. Initially, Police had assumed that they had committed suicide. The police are waiting for the autopsy results to clarify the cause of the death. However the possibility of the victims being murdered has not being rule out.

In the evening on the same day, Korean Embassy officials , accompanied by the parents of the victims met with Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya superintendent, but further details have not been released.

Pattaya City News 16 Aprial 2008

Investigation closed in the Korean death case from Larn Island.

We have been closely following the case from Larn Island which resulted in the death of two Korean Female Tourists. We can confirm that the Parents of the victims, who are now known to be twins, have arrived in Thailand and have formally identified their daughters. They have been named as Miss Park Ji Hee and Miss Park Mi Hee, both aged 28. The pair have been living here in Thailand for the last 2 years and came to Larn Island by boat on 10th April at 9am. They were found dead the next morning. It appears that evidence collected suggests a third party was not involved in their death and according to Police Major General Bundit, the Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, who went to the scene on Tuesday Evening, head wounds on the victims appear to have been self-inflicted following a night of heavy drinking. The pair was thought to have hit their heads on rocks on the beach and when they awoke, they found themselves in the water. One of the twins is then believed to have tied her hands together with her sister in an attempt to save both of them from the water, however due to their intoxicated state and tiredness, they are both believed to have drowned and their bodies were then washed up on the beach. The parents of the deceased have reviewed the evidence and agree with the current Police theory which is backed up with toxicology reports and post mortem results. Police have now closed the case.

The mistake that was made here is the title of this forum. If it didn't say "South Korean women" People would have taken notice. I feel now that this is just another multiple tourist death and has fallen off of the radar.

Does anyone in Chiang Mai know anything about these women? Anyone in Pattaya?

Reading these two news stories does anyone feel warm and fuzzy about the so called police investigation?

If this suicide pact or murder-suicide were in a book or made into a movie no one would buy it. Perhaps one of those Asian comic books.

UNBELIEVABLE!

Yes, it's amazing. But we all know this is Thailand - the Land of Scams, Slimes, Skanks,... What else would you expect? Just gotta remember to expect the unexpected.

All foreigner deaths in Thailand are accidents or suicides of course. Don't you know? Gotta sweep under the rug Thai crimes perpetrated against foreigners to keep the tourist cash rolling in. At all cost do not tarnish the pristine image of Thailand. What a f@cken joke. It's all about the money.

What I can't understand is why any female tourist would want to go to Pattaya in the first place. Pattaya is no resort. It's a big sh!thole full of whores, johns, and a slew of misfits. It's Disneyland for males seeking pootang. Drink and get laid. Ahh... Pattaya...

Knowing that should my ordinary life should end in some f*%^ed up way and that my relatives would probably never know the real cause of my death is one of the many reasons why I want out of here.

This police force is the shame of this country and have proved it more than often enough. :o

I remember several years ago when some Korean guy involved in a construction business dispute in Rayong "went missing".

They (the local plod) found him somewhere in Chantaburi, in a river, stuffed up a waste-water pipe outlet. Handcuffed, and with over 100 stab wounds and other injuries all over his body...

Verdict: Suicide. If "creative" suicide was an Olympic Event, Korea would have struck Gold with that one.

By hard evidence, I was talking about the torn up passports, the money in the pockets, the the bottles of whiskey, and the bodies themselves which indicate that no other person was involved. These items of hard evidence point to the victims doing this to themselves...

:o

See this is a perfect example on how two people an have totally opposing viewpoints.

I see this hard evidence as proof that it was done by a 3rd party.

Really,.... bashed in heads, wrists tied behind the back....Tampered documents- Whiskey -young women swilling whiskey?

But it's suicide..

It's practially a parody.

Hmmm...don't know; why would the twins travel all the way from Chiangmai to Pattaya, take the 09.00AM ferry to Koh Larn, go to a remote spot on the island (did they know the island from before.....?) and do what they -assumed- did ? They were seen walking hand in hand, not exactly something to be considered as pre-suicidal.

Meaning, if you want to commit suicide there must be places in Chiangmai to do so like jump in the river.

Apart from that, they were found ON the rocks/coral shoreline and could not have jumped into the water which was quite far away (as seen from the photos).

But, all in all...a mystery and still so many open questions like, what did they do in Chiangmai for 2 years; surely SOME people must have known them ? :D
