I've and HP Presario setup straight out of the box about 2 1/2 years old and in the last month the sound had just disappeared about 70%. I can't watch stuff i watched before and I haven't changed anything and all the volume things still move but even on maximum I can hardly hear anything.

Speakers are in the monitor but there are two so I cannot understand why they would both go at the same time so I'm thinking it is a technical issue. However, what htat could be I do not know.

Anyone got any bright ideas - the missus has the car up country and I cannot lug it down to Tukcom on a bike !

thanks.

I don't know if you have a hardware switch on that particular model to control the volume, but it's quite possible that your potentiometer has gone out. Otherwise, it could be the onboard amp.

Try replacing / checking cabling going to monitor with a different one(s) to verify no issues,

If you have a sound card try re-landing it, (with PC powered down of course),

If no sound card than you probably have a IC on the motherboard, re-land all internal cabling while you have it open, etc.

No joy, go to control panel/system/device manager/sound devices, uninstall device / driver, reboot, let windows reinstall device when it discovers it on start-up.

Needless to say you already checked control panel/ sound and audio devices, to make sure nothing is muted,

Good luck, :o

I think that all Presarios are laptops......
