Govt to lift martial law nationwide, except deep South

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej announced Thursday that the government would lift martial law nationwide except in the deep South.

He said the martial law would stay in three southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat and four border districts of Songkhla.

Cabinet to convene special meeting Friday on emergency decree

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said Thursday he would convene a special Cabinet meeting Friday to consider extending the emergency decree invoked to control situation in the deep South.

The Emergency Decree on Public Administration in Emergency Situations, which has been extended every three months, will expire on April 19 so it requires a special Cabinet meeting to consider extending it.
