FOREIGN ELDERLY VICTIM ROBBED AND SEVERELY INJURED

A 63-year-old Danish man was robbed and stabbed, on his way back home after spending an afternoon on the beach. He was severely injured. Rescue team immediately took him to Bangkok Pattaya hospital for treatment.

Pol.Lt.Col. Jaruen Withitkorakul, Sattahip, Chonburi, received a phone call at 3pm, on April 19, 2008, from Sawang Rojanathamasatien rescue, that Mr Joergen Chrintian Rasmusen (63), a Danish citizen, was severely stabbed. The incident occurred in Soi Na Jomtien 8, near Pinnacle hotel, Moo 2, Na Jomtien, Sattahip, Chonburi.

After being notified of the attempted robbery, police team rushed to the scene to find Mr. Rasmusen was lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the Soi. He was bleeding constantly as he had been stabbed two times on his back and one time on his left chest. Rescue team gave him the first aid, and rushed him to Bangkok Pattaya hospital.

Mr. Rasmusen told police that he spent his afternoon time, alone, on Na Jomtien beach, and on his way back, he was walking along the Soi to the main (Sukhumvit) road, intended to get a transportation to go back home. Suddenly, out of nowhere, two motorcycle bandits roared up to his right-hand side, the man in the pillion got off the motorbike and attempted to rob him.

He yelled out for help and was stabbed on his chest. Mr. Rasmusen fell down on the ground, the robber then cruelly stabbed on his back twice before changing his shirt, in prevention of being recognized. He got back on the motorbike and the rider sped away, heading to Pattaya.

Pol.Lt.Col. Jaruen revealed that the thieves might have been waiting for the victim around the beach area. They were noticed that the victim was alone; they then followed him to rob. Luckily the victim was not killed but severely injured. However, police has had the confidence to arrest the thieves soon.

If the facts turn out to be as stated (that it was actually a robbery attempt and not some other personal matter) then a very bad story indeed. A few more incidences like this and their hitting the local press back in Scandie Land and all those developers touting and building luxe condos all along Pattaya/Jomntien will have a tough selling job on their hands!

The continued targeting of elderly farangs in these violent robbery attempts is just foul. We're

all becoming a little desensitized to it because it's happened too many times. The Thais should

be embarrassed that their own citizens are doing this. Within the Thai culture elders are revered

and deserving of special respect. When they're foreigners, they simply become more attractive

victims because it's perceived they can't fight back and are likely to have items of value worth

stealing. It all just raises the bile in my stomach. Take measures to protect yourself. :o

TWO WOULD-BE SONGKRAN ROBBERS WHO STABBED ELDERLY DANE ARRESTED

Two hard-up motorcyclists wanting to buy powder to play with the girls on Wan Lai (water playing day), April 19, 2008, were apprehended on April 21, outside the Ambassador Hotel in Jomtien, at 12 noon. They later confessed to attempting to rob and then stabbing the Danish victim in order to hush him up.

The original incident occurred at 3pm when the two motorcycle snatch and grab riders attempted to rob Mr. Joergen Christian Rasmusen (63), a Danish citizen during the Songkran festivities. The pillion rider , Mr. Nathawut Kun-on aka O-leang (16) from Banglamung, Chonburi, leapt off the bike being ridden by Mr.Prisorn Preamjai aka Bird-Lek (20), from Sattahip and tried to snatch Mr. Joergen's shoulder bag. However, Mr. Joergen resisted and cried for help, at which point Nathawut stabbed him in his chest and back to silence him. When a passerby approached, Nathawat jumped back on the bike and the pair rode off. Because of his serious injuries, the victim was taken to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for treatment.

At 12 noon on April 21, a 3-man police team consisting of Sattahip Superintendent , Pol.Col.Suphathee Boonkrong, Deputy Superintendent, Pol.Lt.Col. Siamrat Rung-rueng, and Pol.Maj.Gen. As far as I can remember this is happening all the time in the UK as well to elderly people so it is not just a Thai or Jomtien/Pattaya thing.

As cali4995 says elderly people will be looked on as easy targets and probably be worth more in a robbery.

On the other hand it is very rare to find a 25 year old guy, over 2 metres tall and very fit as a victim.

I suspect that robbers mentality runs along the line of, why pick on somebody who will fight back and win when there are easier targets around.

I am 64 next month but then again I live near a village out in the country in the central region.
