does anyone have any useful suggestions..

im flying into BKK on 15th Dec, leaving on the 2nd Jan. That is nearly 3 weeks and I want to spend the majority of time around ko samui and ko panang. So questions are as follows..

1) which is the best place to spend xmas and new year. I like reasonably lively places. should xmas be spent somewhere different to new year?

2) my flight back to london leaves at 11.30pm on 2nd jan... i dont want to spend all day on a train/bus from the islands.. so want to fly back. is there any other flight back to bangkok from another place near the islands. ive just been on bangkok air website and all their decent flight times between ko samui and BKK have gone on this day?
