I was copying one of my friends dvd discs using "super dvd copy" ,and as soon as a blank disc was burned this message popped up and ever since.

I restarted my computer hoping this would go away, but every time I click on anything on my computer it happens again. :o

Please help

It says "windows explorer has stopped working and is looking for a solution to the problem" and it flashes for couple times and "windows explore is restarting". :o

I have the same problem, but it only happens occasionally. It started after I installed Vista service pack 1. Which operating system are you using?

I'm currently on VISTA SP-1 and it's the first time I'm having trouble with.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

If you're not sure how to boot into Safe mode, try pressing the <F8> key repeatedly after the hardware does its BIOS checks but before Vista starts to load.

If you can boot into Safe Mode, see if you can uninstall the "super dvd copy" software via Control Panel > Programs and Features.

If that doesn't work, can you run System Restore (press the Windows key, or click on the Windows icon in the lower right, and type in system restore and press <enter>) to set the system back to a time before you installed "super dvd copy"?

If you cannot even boot into Safe Mode, and if you have a Vista installation DVD (if your computer didn't come with one, can you borrow one from someone else?), boot from the DVD and choose the Repair option (I think you have to click past one screen asking about your language) and try using System Restore from that screen.

Only other options I can think of are to buy a conterfeit Vista DVD and either

[a] boot from it to see if System Restore will work, but I have a hunch now that won't work if you already got some error messages trying System Restore in Safe Mode, or

reinstall Vista and start from scratch using the serial number attached to your computer (usually via a sticker on the bottom, if it's a lap) or included somewhere with the documentation that came with the computer.

If the Vista was come with your Laptop as original but pre installed, there should be an hidden Partition on your Hard disk which will have the whole bunch of software which came with that laptop! Check the Manual of the Laptop for that.

If youre in Bangkok, send me an PM with your phone number and I'll contact you for additional help.

Cheers.

Wait a sec, I must have misread your earlier post. I thought the problem was "Windows is restarting," not "Windows explorer is restarting."

You mean you are able to successfully boot into Windows? If so, maybe you can try a few other things.

Are you able to invoke Task Manager by pressing the <ctrl>+<shift>+<esc> keys? If so, click on the Processes tab and see if you can kill explorer.exe totally by right-clicking on explorer.exe and selecting End Process.

After you have killed the explorer.exe task, you should be left with a blank desktop and just Task Manager. If you weren't able to find explorer.exe on the list, and/or could not end the process, don't worry, just continue ... I was trying to stop the endless loop of Explorer restarting.

Next, in Task Manager, click on File, choose "New Task (Run)..." and in the small window that opens up, type in "appwiz.cpl" (without the quotation marks). That should open the "Uninstall or change a program" applet. See if you can uninstall "super dvd copy." If so, go back to Task Manager, choose the "New Task (Run)..." again and type in "shutdown -r -t 00" (there's a space between the "t" and the two zeroes) to restart your computer and see if things are cleared up.

If not, there are other options, such as manually editing the registry to possibly remove the "super dvd copy" -- a process not for the faint-hearted, but if your only other option seems to be to reinstall Windows, it could be worth a shot.

BTW, if your system is totally farkled the above process may not work as explained. I'm assuming you have a relatively simple problem of a conflict between a rogue program and Vista. If the situation is more dire than that, I can't predict how things will work.

Reimar, you posted while I was writing my epistle. If you get Jumbo on the phone, can you try walking him through the process I was trying to explain above?

My idea on registry edits (with regedit via Task Manager > Run, if necessary) was a simple search for the "Run" keys and see if there were an entry for the rogue "super dvd copy" program and if deleting the key from the registry would return order to his chaotic system.

Of course, if he doesn't mind just restoring the system back to square one, he can skip all my suggestions.

Thanks very much everyone who tried helping me out.

To tell the truth, I was restoring my laptop when my wife accidentally ejected recovery disc :o naturally WINDOWS died

I ended up taking my laptop to acer service center in Chiangmai where all staffs were very helpful :D

They reinstalled VISTA and cleaned it for me for FREE.

So, now I'm busy downloading updates and reorganizing stuffs... .

Thanks again peter991,wpcoe,Reimar, and Andy.
