April 30, 200817 yr Is there any value to a Thai degree in Aus. The specific degree is Marketing Business; my TGF has actually failed one unit and were just wondering whether it is worth doing another 6 months or just forgetting about it and getting her a job over here.
April 30, 200817 yr Most Australian employers do not care what university your degree is from (maybe a legal firm would or something like that) but generally not. Most of the time they won't even ask to see a certificate.
April 30, 200817 yr Author On a full time basis, I actually wonder if she would even get a better income working in business managment than working as a waitress or something in a Thai resturant, or doing manicures/pedicures in a beauty parlour. The difference is probably very small - although working in a business position i guess there is more room to grow. Maybe once we have saved up some money we can consider going back to Thailand to finish her studies...and I can have a nice six month holiday

However, unless she is gifted, that does not mean she can walk in into "Marketing Business" jobs at will. That job area is heavily competitive (far more than engineering and software development) and someone from a Thai Uni may be inferior or even posess outdated and useless knowledge and attitude when competing against locals.
April 30, 200817 yr I've seen people do degrees in Thailand and it was a joke. Why do so many jobs ask for Masters degrees or better ? because the basic degree (part from top universities no doubt) are way below western equivalents.
