Even with the increase in fairs EVA will still be cheaper than BA and the other direct London Bangkok flyers. If it was £200 more expensive than Thai I would still pay it. I have heard and experiensed nothing but good things about EVA. They wont be the only ones putting up there prices.

Far comment I have had to fly Gulf Air, Bahrain/ Bangkok, only direct flight, for the last 2 years price has increased 10,000 baht in that time for business class

I got back from the USA with EVA last week. I like them and always end up flying with them but they don't have the best catering. On the trip back they didn't serve any food or drink for 12 hours! OK if I asked for something it was given but no trolley for 12 hours! Also I like to be served free booze a lot and anything except a pewney glass of wine at meals is absent. I much prefer something like Emirates or Thai, even though these are more expensive than EVA. Also the extra u have to pay for the Elite class is just not worth it as all u get is a bigger seat, nothing more.
Sounds like you rate an airline by the amount of booze they give you. I won't say free booze because the airlines that offer ''free'' booze are really charging you an outrageous amount in increased ticket price.

Actually, I think almost everybody pays for Elite Class, precisely because it gets you a bigger seat and the opportunity to sleep comfortably. We don't care whether there is a trolley trundling up and down the aisle with liquor every five minutes. In fact, we are happy that it isn't.

By Will McSheehy and Arif Sharif

April 30 (Bloomberg) -- Emirates, the biggest Arab airline, said full-year profit surged 61 percent to a record as it flew more passengers and cargo, added new routes to cities including Houston and Toronto and had one-time gains.

Net income in the 12 months ended March 31 jumped to 5 billion dirhams ($1.4 billion) from 3.1 billion dirhams a year earlier, the company said in a statement today. Revenue grew 32 percent to 39.5 billion dirhams.

Why would I fly Eva Air

when i have so many better options like Ethihad, Emirates , Quatar Airways and Malaysian Airlines.

Compared to Eva all above airlines have better food , inflight service, attitude , Fluent English speaking inflight staff and

great facilities while in transit at their base airports. They actually pamper you.

Because apart from Malaysian the others do not offer direct flights to the UK and I don't know if even Malaysian offer a direct flight to the UK from BK?

Having said that apart from Etihad I have been distictly unimpressed with the in flight service of all the other airlines you mention . :o

who are Eva anyway? They aren't big enough to fly from Manchester UK :o . Etihad, Qatar and Emirates compete to provide good service from here and relatively low prices compared to crappy BA et al :D

I actually prefer a 2 hour stopover in the small but well formed Abu Dhabi Airport to stretch my legs, rather than a marathon single flight. Wouldn't be the same if I was changing at a busy Gatwick or Heathrow though, I admit :D

The information I have (as I am an agent as well) indicates that the fare increase is across the board on all Eva flights due to the increase in fuel costs. Eva is just the first airline to make an announcement, you can be pretty sure that the other airlines will follow suit in due course.

Hardly what I would call irresponsible. If anything, it's good to know that Eva is letting you get the lower fares if booked before May 9. I am willing to bet most of the airlines are simply going to raise their fares and tell you after the fact.

I'm sick of people saying the baht has gained value against other currencies.. it's rubbish.

The USD is in freefall, stop measuring the baht against it.

When prices go up and incomes down, as is happening in so many countries that Thailand has been getting holidaymakers from, holidays are the first thing that can be sacrificed in order to re-balance a household budget.

In what countries are incomes going down?

Only can speak for the US, but for the first time in my life, incomes dropped in the USA (slightly) in the 10 year period from 1997 to 2007.

That's not accounting for inflation -- if inflation were factored in, the 10-year drop would have been huge.

Rising oil and fuel prices is the most likely culprit...although having said that let's not forget how British Airways was recently implicated for dishonestly charging customers excessively under the excuse of 'fuel surcharge' in cahoots with another airline... Oh well... :o

Massive increase in Air fares from May 9

We have just received our new price sheets effective 09 May from Eva Air, and they are applying what can only be described as irresponsible increases to all their air fares from next Friday.

Example of round trip fares:

Low season London economy was around THB 33,000 and will go to THB 42,500

Low season Amsterdam was around THB 28,000 and will go to THB 34,500

Low season USA was around THB 30,000 and will go to THB 37,000

To add insult to injury they have also introduced a weekend surcharge on the USA! Needless to say the Elite Class fares also go up.

We have no idea how they can justify this, considering that the Baht has strengthened against all currencies the Taiwanese must be doing very nicely thank you from sales In Thailand but there is nothing anyone can do about it except fly on other airlines!

Anyone who is holding a booking that has not yet been ticketed needs to complete the transaction by the

end of 8th May, and Thaivisa Travel can of course still make bookings at the old fare for another week.

high season is from the mid november (after the rainy season ends and water recede) to the beginning of march, when the temperature start to rising + chinese new year + easter + songkran.

July-August air fare is expensive because of the usa/european summer holidays, but because of the rainy season in thailand it's not the most popular destination this time of year.

With oil /jet fuel prices at current levels its only a matter of time before we see massive increases in domestic(Thailand) airfares.

The discount airlines must be losing money based on there current fares.

I am surprised that nobody seems to know about ecotaxes......I was searching for a flight back to Brussels a while ago. And on the sites of different airlines, I noticed that the tickets bought after the beginning of May would be more expensive due to the new ecotaxes in Europe. I don't know if this exists in every european countries......but they start with it just now. So, that could explain also a part of the price increase, together with the fuel price....

Sorry for my not so good english!

I don't know why this is any surprise to anyone. All U.S. carriers are now imposing new luggage rules since late Feb. Between me and the Mrs. we ended up paying $118USD extra each just for having too much luggage. Expect all international carriers to raise prices. The world economy is in the toilet. Petrol and food prices are at record highs, so why all the moaning about a price increase. Airlines must make money or they go out of business. Capitalism, isn't it awful!?! Unless you would like to go to socialism in flying. I am sure the Soviets loved Aeroflot back in the Cold War era.

Flying from Phoenix, AZ USA to BKK on EVA Premium Laurel Class cost us $3400 each on tickets I bought in Jan. Now it is $3900. EVA charges about the same as Philippine Airlines, an airline I am way too familiar with. They charge $200 less for Mabuhay (Business) Class compared to EVAs Premium Laurel Class. EVA is a Rolls Royce and PAL is like flying in a Yugo. EVAs service was excellent and has convinced my wife that we will not be flying PAL ever again. And we usually fly First Class on PAL and EVA put them to shame.

In summation you get what you pay for.

I booked BKK-BRU return for Sept/Oct on Ethihad a few days ago, ticket valid one year at 34950B.

Bought the same a few months ago but promotional fare, not valid before and after this and that for 29450B, flying April/may

Checked Ethihad website today, increased to 37550B, that's 2600B more on total cost.

My kids are flying out to Bangkok from Manchester UK on the 19th July for two weeks here in Thailand. They are flying Emirates through Dubai and the price is 1073 pounds including taxes. last year it was 800 pounds. This is the cheapest flight that i can get in this period and my agent states that all the other European airlines and far in excess of the figure.

Not just EVA.

you exchange opinions (short/longterm?), here are the facts:

30.12.04 1 euro = 53 baht, 30.07.07 1 euro = 41 baht, 22.04.08 1 euro = 50 baht (rounded), so it goes up and down. the most constant relation can be observed to the yen, in 4 years from 2.70 to 3.30 yen/baht. so the baht was getting much stronger and lifeconvo is wrong (a 100ccm honda motorbike went down from 44,000 to 36,000 baht in thailand)

I have also heard that EVA and possibly some others have changed the luggage weight limits. It appears that you used to eb able to carry a maximum of 32kg per bag bu t that will now be reduced to 23kg. Has anyone else heard of this?

You guys don't know how lucky you are to be living in Thailand. I left for Prague April 1st, returning to Thailand June 2nd. When Clinton left office, the dollar was worth approximately 34 Czech crowns. It is now worth 15.4 crowns(at least it was this morning). Not only is it sinking like a stone, but Czechs are earning more money, hence prices are going up. Since last summer when I was last here, a one-month transportation ticket(metro, tram, bus) in Prague has gone up frm 480 crowns to 550 crowns(in 4 months). That's an increase of 14% and everything else has gone up between 10-15%, including groceries, beer and dinner.

I can't wait to get back to Thailand...

Prices of air fares TO Thailand appear to have risen dissproportionately with those to other countries - it is now cheaper to fly to Hong Kong in than to Thailand.

The thing that has changed is that Etihad have increased their prices and reduced capacity by dropping Gatwick which means there are fewer empty seats on flights these days. It is actually quite crazy that airlines can get away with charging more for seats on more or less full aircraft than they were on half empty ones! However that is the problem with the law of price v demand - FAIRNESS doesnt enter in to it - IF you can fill the planes because of shortage of flights then you can charge a premium to cover losses on other less used routes. I first flwe to thailand just over two years ago for about £340 now its difficult to find flights for lesss than £500 and many are £600 - £700 or more - with virtually no special offers any more. I dont know about everyone else here but my income hasnt gone up by that much in a couple of years

We need a budget airline to open up this route and smash the monoply of the more or less state run airlines - this has happened to Hong Kong

oasis, a budget airline flying London Hong Kong, went bust almost a month ago.

the other long haul airline to be flying London - Kuala Lumphur never materialised, after being announced in january 2007. Branson's Virgin was involved in creation of this company, so a serious partner - but probably the other party withdraw

Strange,

Me and my wife are thinking of booking 2 return flights to Thailand in November.

We was told the price, flying with eva, would be £475 direct from heathrow, good price I think.

Ethiad are another airline I would recomend, Thai airways a little steep, but saying that, flying with thai airways was the cheapest i have ever flown.

Back in june last year, i got a return flight with thai airways for £383 from heathrow.
