Sometimes Ford offers interest free purchase plans. I bought my 2007 Focus that way. Ford is only second to Isuzu as far as fuel economy.

What's the price of a new new Ranger turbo diesel. Do you need a large deposit when you're when your buying with finance?

That I can't answer because I traded in that piece of sh!t Toyota. I would have been ashamed to sell it to anyone.

What was the problem with the toyota? My family had a few, all very reliable, but that was 20yrs ago, I think the company is now riding on the name it built up last century. A mechanic told me the new pick ups aren't as strong as the old ones. Maybe becoming more of a family car than a work vehicle?

I don't have enough time to tell you about all the problems. That was my third Toyota pickup. The first one was great. the second one was not as good but still OK. The third one was a 2002 4X4 4 door top of the line. It could never be trusted. Mostly electrical problems but the radiator sprung a huge leak and there was one serious oil leak. The last problem was with the starter or something to do with the starter. Sometimes it would just click when trying to start it. Toyota could find nothing wrong with it. The ABS braking system had problems, the power windows had problems. The air bag warning light would not go off. The oil pressure idiot light would flash on and off. Maybe just a lemon but that was my last Toyota. Toyota was able to fix everything except the starter problem and the ABS. They couldn't find anything wrong. I felt guilty trying to sell it to an individual so I traded it in to the Ford dealer.

Sounds like fun, even the new cars can be a risk.

For that price you're looking at a 3-4 year old Ford Ranger with the 2.5 liter turbo diesel engine. Tough, reliable and much more economical than the Toyota or Isuzu pigs.

Beware of the cam chaft breaking..... Very big problem on the Ford if it breaks = new engine [Ford know this is a problem but will do nothing about it]

Everyone I know that has one had this failure around 100,000 km... Next door his broke at 103,000km, now has a Vigo and hates it.

Also another big problem is the price of the filters ALL are a very high price = a very high service cost.. [eg: Isuzu Air Filter 189 baht, Ranger is 1,320baht !! etc etc]

:D don't know where you buy your stuff but original "Mazda" oil filter = exactly same FORD cost (here in Bkk in every car part shop) around 250 Baht, air element : original around 750 (not at FORD dealer shop!) and equivalent but other brand (not china import) 220 Baht (change every 10,000km)

I am calculating my consumption in Liters/km and i never drive below 12L/KM (8,3km/L). This is Bangkok trafic every day for 70km. The FORD engine (2,5TD) is like most FORD cars/trucks an overhold but "old + outdated" engine. Inovations in FORD engines are always years behind their opponents. If you want to move/drive really quick (not Thai quick) in town trafic: you better shut down the airco, than its performance is not bad.

The only good thing in this Ranger is the good driving ability on motorways, its not loud inside (max speed I drive:130km/h) and the handling feels safe (but maybe isn't..newer tried). If no ABS be careful with emergency braking.

Selling is quite difficult... try to sell mine since 3 weeks for or around 270,000. But it seem to me that people prefer buy their cars in this famous tents where you pay 50,000 more for the same car (only because they cleaned the engine, the inside and outside perfectly) and you not even get to know the previous owner or any history of the car. All their cars are "perfect". :o

On the other way: just try to find a good looking Nissan or Toyota around 5 to 6 years old for under 300.000......good luck :D

It is a 2002, I am second owner since 15 month. Airbags but no ABS. 4 door, 4WD (not permanent and never used..at least not by me..living in Bangkok, not in jungle :D ), 2,5TD, 170,000km, Front tyres new Pirelly Scorpion Strada. Glow plugs replaced recently cause bad cold start, now fine. Unfortunately one of these green busses scratched the car yesterday. It will be repaired end next week. Small dent but need to leave car 4 days.

:D
