issan2
Hi Does anyone know of any reasonably priced hotels near the Chatujak weekend market in Bangkok ? I want to visit it and have a hotel near by. Hopefully within walking distance. cheers
lopburi3
This is not a hotel area and there is really no reason to stay near Chatujak Market as the BTS Skytrain has a stop right at it. So you can stay anywhere near a BTS station and have easy access.
chonabot
isaan2 , if you need to stay near the market there is one really good hotel, but a bit pricey ( 5 * - $80+ us per night) Sofitel Central Plaza , about 5 mins walk. HTH
Roger13
Hi Issan, In my opinion the Sofitel is at least 20 mins walk, if not more from Chatuchak And according to their website: http://www.centralhotelsresorts.com A single room starts at US$127 There are hotels near to Saphan Khwai BTS station (One stop from Mor Chit BTS - Chatuchak) The "Official Map Bangkok" a freebie at the Airport shows 7 hotels in Pradiphat Road - turn right at first junction south from Saphan Khwai station. The Elizabeth starts at Bht 1050 The Mido starts at Bht 1177 (No Service charge) The Following sites have all details including Location Maps http://www.hotelthailand.com/bangkok/elizabeth http://www.hotelthailand.com/bangkok/mido All above prices include 10% service charge+7% Vat Hope this helps Roger PS - I just looked at the Location Maps Mido one is useless Elizabeth is out of date but otherwise quite good the BTS runs along Phaholyothin Road and Saphan Kwai BTS station is by coincidence where they have printed "Saphan Khwai" in small letters! The Mido is opposite the Elizabeth The N&NE Bus Terminus has moved
chonabot
Roger , you must be a slow walker bro.. Guarantee if you phone Sofitel direct the room will not cost more than $80....its the low season after all hotel
lopburi3
There are hotels near to Saphan Khwai BTS station(One stop from Mor Chit BTS - Chatuchak) It has been many years since I have traveled in that area, much less walked; but I suspect these hotels are closer to the hourly class rather than tourist class. I do agree it would be a long walk from Central.
Roger13
OK but even if it is ONLY $80 who wants to pay Bht3,360 for a room whilst looking for bargains in Chatu chak ... Most of my friends complain I walk too fast for them. From Chatuchak market it can take 5 mins to Mor Chit BTS station. Then along by Chatuchak Park 10 mins Then have to cross the 6 lane road ? mins to Central Plaza Shopping mall and another 5 mins from there to Sofitel. I was taken to an Indian Restaurant just last week near to Elizabeth & Mido Hotels - these look respectable not sleezy. They are Large not small - I THINK they cater for Package Tours from other asian countries. (But there may well be short time joints in the area.) After lunch we walked to Chatuchak - a pleasant Sunday Afternoon stroll 30 - 40 mins maybe.
chonabot
Roger 1 Chonabot 0 But the chap ( isaan2) asked for the nearest hotel to Chatujak which is , the Sofitel Central. Overall, with the event of the skytrain, I agree this nullifies the proximity of this upmarket Hotel.
Roger13
Hi Chonabot, Thanks so much for your pleasant rejoinder. But I can't help but point out that Issan did enquire about "Reasonably Priced" hotels Cheers Roger

JemJem
The hotels that Roger mentioned have got reasonable rates, I think. I used to stay in the Saphan Kwai area but never actually stayed at a hotel. There is also the Pradipat Hotel, which is on the other side of Mido Hotel but a bit closer to the Saphan Kwai intersection. I would think that Pradipat Hotel would have cheaper rooms than Mido and Elizabeth. I would guess that at this time of the year, one can get a single room for about 800 baht a night at Pradipat Hotel. Regards, Jem

issan2
sorry sorry .. about 1000 baht / night is reasonable. Will stretch to 1400. Tried the Federal hotel as its near the sky train but the people there wont take a credit card over the phone. The fact that we are getting off of a bus from Issan at 3 am seems to give them a problem. But they werent very helpful anyway.
