Paddle Down The Mekong

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have this idea of paddeling down the Mekong. I want to start somewhere at the Golden Triangle and finish it at the Mekong Delta. I am very sporty and adventurous so don't worry about that. What I worry about is the river itself. I don't have many paddling experiences and would like to skip the dangerous parts (take the train or a lift), but I can't find enough information about where the river is easy and where it is dangerous for a beginner.

Further more I am not sure what kind of boat to pick. It should be something like a canoe. The idea is to sleep in that thing, too. I would like to buy such a boat at the Golden Triangle and sell it at the end of the yourney (don't mind to make a loss).

Now there are many questions I can think of and another thousand I didn't think of yet, so I am happy for any kind of critic/help/answer:

- What kind of boats are available? ($?)

- Where is the river dangerous?

- Can I transport a kanoe (or other floatings) on land when the river is too dangerous?

- How dangerous is the easy part of the river (animals, deseases, unfriendly people)?

- what is the most beatiful part of the river?

cheers
