Car Insurance For Car Older Than 10 Years AIA will only give 3rd class insurance

unfortunately that is correct. obviously i can't get a better than 3rd class insurance for one of my cars which is 20 years old but valued at 2 million Baht :(

Vehicles up to 15 years can usually be insured 2+1 and then on to 20 years on application.

And 3+1 ??

Seen a very clean 95 car I might get for the missus as a round towner. not worried on theft or fire much but would like some collision cover. At 16 years old now thats not possible ??

Sorry it is not possible just to take out 'life and injury' of the driver as (apart from they are all standard packages) the insurance is for the vehicle not the insured in Thailand.

I was asking the opposite...whether it is possible to get insurance on only the vehicle and not the driver.

I think I had that once with a company called Viraya or something - i can check and write later.

As has been pointed out it is the vehicle that is insured.

All insurance companies cover the same basic points.

It may apply to some Posters here who are Bikers. When i notified a change of Address on my Life Policy issued in England, they said its invalid if i was killed on my Motorcycle in Thailand. Extra Premium if i did carry on. My BUPA wasnt valid here either, so i cancelled it.. I use Aduthya Insurance Direct for Cars, no Brokers and Super Clear English Spoken Service. I hit loads of Dogs, and they never small print their way from Repairs.

Any sort of agreed value or 1st class insurance for a classic car ? My BMW is 36 yrs old but fully restored to better than new condition. It's total value is less than a new Nissan March but obviously worth more than an unloved 36 yr old rust bucket. Almost 95% of parts and panels are still available from BMW BKK. I don't wish to take the risk of third party only insurance. Seems plenty of other classics in Thailand some worth many millions of baht.. Surely they aren't being driven on only 3rd party insurance ?

Sorry, 16 years is too old to start any insurance other than 3rd Class.

i would like to have a full insurance (called 1st class in Thailand) which i can get in any other civilised country where i am willing to pay the applicable premium. by the way, all my three cars are insured with AXA using AA Insurance Brokers based on the recommendations i read in Thaivisa.

i'm not sure whether the car i referred to is covered in case of theft but it does not concern me because nobody in his right mind will steal a car which in Thailand is [nearly] as rare as a sabre-toothed chicken. i will however look into it because it might make sense to have fire insurance.

edit: no need to look, just saw

on to 20 years on application

I find it just crazy theres no specialist insurers..

I mean that multi million baht Ferrari is running around on 3rd party only ??

The customer need is there.. People are willing to pay highish premiums.. Yet no insurer will service that need. Seems most odd to me.
