Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
Yes, I am getting over 5% on my 800k left back in Australia, but even at 5%, that 800,000 x 5% = 40,000 baht. Kasikorn Bank is paying 1.5% on a 12 month term deposit. That 800,000 x 1.5% = 12,000 baht. Agents fees vary, but it's reasonably cheap when all you need is the 800k baht bank document, but I get them to throw in re-entry permit and 90 day reporting as well. Can you see why I laugh at people who say their extension ONLY costs them 1,900 baht? They have to gather all the documents, go to immigration, wait in a queue etc, and they think they are saving money. I'm in Pattaya. There are many visa agents in Pattaya. The below link is not my visa agent, but one from the first page of a Google search. https://www.keyvisathailand.com People argue the legality of it, yet, it's widely advertised and been going on for decades. -

changes at CM Imm. for marriage extension and TM30?
I made another trip to CM airport Imm. office. I took in a certified extract provided by the state in US where we married. The Thai worker at the Information window took it to an Immigration officer who stated that the document would be accepted as verification of our marriage (in '99!). To summarize CM Immigration want the KorRor 22 and further evidence of a marriage performed outside Thailand. In my case a certified copy of the US state's marriage record is acceptable. -

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
According to car250.com Mazda will launch an EV in Thailand, the Mazda 6e. In China this car is known as the EZ6, however with a smaller standard range battery [68kwh]. The car is based on a previous iteration of the Changan Deepal L06. It is a sedan the size of a BYD Seal. On the looks it is a very lovely car and has a bigger boot space than the Seal. But I'm afraid the price will not be competitive to the Seal with discount. Based on the Chinese EZ6 topmodel standard range [68kwh battery] and an uptick of 50% of an import model, I expect the Thai price to be around 1.3 M baht. This is the price of the Thai Deepal L07. Yep - thats why IMO, its always best to go stright to source and get a serious of examples and sit in the car... ideally at night or in the workshop where they can turn off the lights. I have the opposite opinion - go for the strongest tint on the moonroof and cut out as much as the UV light as possible as that cuts out as much heat radiation as possible - its simple science. -

Can still transfer via Bangkok Bank NY branch?
FYI... 1. the domestic wire transfer method thru BKKB NY was, AFAIK, never documented on BKKB's website, either before or after BKKB NY stopped accepting traditional ACH transfers. But the New York branch still accepted and forwarded onward domestic wires to BKKB TH.... as my own personal experience using that method confirmed. 2. And, on top of #1 above, all of my successful trials/tests doing domestic wires thru the BKKB NY branch occurred AFTER BKKB NY had stopped accepting traditional ACH transfers. So I have no reason to think anything has changed with their handling of domestic wires since then... However, as I've mentioned above, anyone wishing to pursue that course these days should definitely call and check/confirm with the NY branch directly. In my experience, BKKB customer service in Thailand were relatively useless and uninformed on the details of what the NY branch was doing. But the staff at the NY branch, once you reach the right person there, were great to deal with and very informative.
