mmmmmmmm

i think we are talking about farangs getting it by being in not so clever areas late at night

let me have a look at the gun crime statistics on farangs only on thailand

Well this thread is pointing out how farangs are apparently the targets (due to obvious wealth and socio economic factors)..

So if thats is true.. And we are more likely to get mugged.. Then we are even higher up on that scale than the general population (why mug normal Thais when you can mug a rich farang)..

That would skew the stats even higher for farangs.

your right

best we all leave now

:o

seriously though regardless of the "stats" that you are quoting in Saiyuan where there is less crime than there was where i lived in scotland and that was with property both in the city and out in the sticks

there is no real road rage here, if there was the roads would be a lot less busy and the hospitals would be busier as there are a great many muppets in charge of vehicles here.

Fingers crossed i wont get mugged, attacked, home broken into or anything else bad BUT i do believe that for those that frequent the known areas for mugging etc then to a certain extent they are bringing it upon themselves and the unfortunate thing is that if for example someone fought back and knocked the ***t out of the would be muggers then that person would be the one that the police would chuck in jail and then extort money from.

For Bagsida that says the price isnt right for germans anymore - do you think its only germans that have problems with the price of aviation fuel? Look at the problems that the american aero industry is having with fares etc, european carriers and asian carriers are all being affected.

If these types of recurring incidents (multiple serious crimes with similar methods of operation) were to take place in most 'western' societies, the police would target the areas at the relevant times with increased patrols (prevention) and assemble a team ('task force') to conduct an exhaustive investigation (detection). Conducting a 'sting' operation is not the normal approach for these types of crimes. The Thai police could provide some comfort to the expat and tourist community if it were to show some professionalism by adopting the above approaches in combination. Whether this board, letters to the governor/newpapers, etc can achieve this outcome is problematic. In any case, the fact that the police do not seem to have reacted appropriately to this continuing situation is shameful.

i wonder a little bit about the story. What was this guy doing with a 13 year old girl 5 am in the morning....let her drive back the motobike they wrote...hmmm, usually kids at this age belong in beds at this time. Maybe the muggers only hated the guy for driving around with a girl much too young for him. Just try to realize that some of them hate us for running around with their girls, even if their girls buying whiskey for them for the money the made with farangs....

Anyway....talking talking talking....nothing happend here except some ppl talking about a lot of warm air.................

so just letz forget about it and go on living....WHO IS NEXT?? hopefully one of the members here which know everything better but still dont give us an idea except...FORGET IT, ITS NORMALLY HERE IN THAILAND

IT IS NOT :o

I think everyone would agree with you on that. Unfortunately, as soon as the authorities do a Guiliani (Where NYC crime areas were flooded with uniform beat cops and tickets were given out to every minor offense), the folks that know best for us will be up in arms screaming police state. Imagine the postings in TV if there was a sudden surge of uniforms in the mugging areas. Once the muggings stopped, people would be saying the cops were too heavy in their presence, the BiB were hanging around to harass the poor farangs etc. Not an excuse for inaction, but I think this problem is going to be around for some time, so it's best we all just exercise caution. Yea, I know, easy for me to say since I am nowhere near rawai and I don't travel on a bike in the early morning. Perhaps this will provide incentive for some guys to finally settle down and morph into the routine of the older folks that retire to bed before 23:00hrs.

just another idea,

Phuket Police is always complaining of not enough policemen. Guess they are right.

In the meantime we have thousands of unregistered people from Isaan and from South Thailand in Phuket.

The Police get Staff for the people living in Phuket, mean, for the REGISTERED People.

Ask yourself, is your wife, lady or girlfriend registered where she is currently living??

I bet that a minimum of 6 out of ten people in Phuket are not registered at the Registration office in Phuket Town, that mean there is never enough Police here for doing some special missions.....the Traffic Police (white helmets) is not educated for crimes or setting up a sting operation, thats the gold helmet police......

are you registered?

are the thirty day visa on arrival sexpats registered

...............................................av-29465.jpg

@ smartcross

sure I AM and hopefully so are you. Even the sexpats are registered on arrival or at the immigration. :D

Guess we just only forget one thing

.....its ONLY farangs who are mugged, if they are not here they won't be hurt, Thailogic :o

This the unfortunate but inevitable result of the influx of wealth to Phuket. There is nothing unusual about it. In fact, we are following the same pattern of intensifying criminal activity as occurs in all developing areas.

There are simple solutions to the muggings in Rawai, and to the robberies and home invasions that are becoming all too common. People just have to stop pretending that Phuket is different from anywhere else in that regard, and take control of their own lives. Security concerns should as basic as taking a vitamin to prevent illness or putting on your car's seatbelt.

This is very true in my opinion. A lot of the posters on this forum have lived in Phuket for many years and have seen many changes. The fact is that today Phuket is a major "tourist development" and like just about every other major tourist centre in the world, there is crime. You just have to have the knowledge of what exactly is happening here and how best to avoid it or reduce the chances of it happening to you. And these incidents do happen in other places. Just for comparison, I used to live in Singapore - everyone thinks it's crime free, it is not. During my time there I've read about many murders (hidden away in the dark corners of the newspaper - not front page news) but these incidents were always in the early hours of the morning and I never felt threatened (not going out in the early hours).

Meanwhile the German foreign ministry added something about the "violent muggings" to their travel warnings for Thailand :

http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/de/La...tshinweise.html

Translation :

The violent crimes (partly resulting in death) increases in Thailand. This concerns specially tourist areas like Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya.

Even if the police in many cases does´nt investigate like it would be necessary, it would be helpful to report any case to the local tourist police immediatelly ........

This only for your information in context to the waist of time to report the incidents on Phuket to the embassies.

Local police have been out in force at Chalong circle, a stop from Chalong circle to Kata, and another in Kata at the 7-11 as you near Club Med.

Isn't it awesome, the show of force between 11AM and 5pm, to bust all those criminals not wearing their helmets? After 6pm I guess it's whiskey time with all that collected loot, and between 1AM and 5AM when the real criminals are out mugging people, the cops are sleeping.

Now that's effective policing!!!

Exactly. Everything in Thailand should be as it is in Western societies. Heck, let's raise the prices of everything to their Western equivalents and run the Thais out of the country. Never mind that the police are chronically understaffed. We demand comfort.

Just to add: would any of you send your 13-year-old daughter out on a motorcycle at 5 am in Chalong -- on her own? Just curious, as there have been so many muggings recently. Would you do such a thing in your home country? Perhaps not. So while we're happy to expect "Western" standards in terms of crime prevention, we are, at the same time, keen to abuse those same standards when it suits.

When you get sick, you go to a doctor. When you have legal problems, you go to a lawyer. When you want to build a house, you go to an architect. Why, when there are concerns that could cost you your life, do you not consult with a specialist in security?

And that is you?

SPAM

I think it´s not him himself - accidental today I saw an offer of this company.

It´s a provider specialized in providing security concepts and contracts with other specialized providers, which provides the best alarmsystems and the best security services in Thailand - the complete package which includes checking your personal needs of security and connect you to the other providers is THB 100,000.- only - sure without any alarmsystem or security service.

If the police will do nothing about the recent muggings, i think that the smart move would be to involve the 2nd most powerful force Phuket. According to many threads on TV this would be the Tuk Tuk mafia. Maybe these guys already know the perps of the crimes and just need to be pursuaded that they are costing them money by reducing the number of tourists etc.

It appears that from most of the posts that i have read previously show that these guys are not afraid to combat violence with violence, so maybe a better option that the BIB.

Cheers, Rick

Lol. It's a funny thought, the idea of mobilizing a force of tuk-tuk-mafia types. They could be used for good -- or evil.

Perhaps it shows how serious this is becoming if the UK Gov are getting off their <deleted>.

Mailing your embassies does work. Lets see the Swedish, US, Canadian, German and others get down here and do the same thing.

Great stuff, how embarrasing for the local authorities.

Yes but when Ambassadors get involved the Home Country gets interested.

Thai's don't respond well to criticism but they respond well when their pockets get hit.

Pressure is growing now, don't let up. Keep writing to your embassies, keep complaining here and any other web site you can think of.

100% agree, but unfortunatelly it seems even some Germans (incl. me) sent messages to embassies etc. - I hope we get support from the English speaking community - let us know about what you have done.

Here are some embassy email addresses again :
