Storm Over The Rocks

Featured Replies

I like shooting stormy conditions - here's one brewing up over Hua Hin today

EOS 5D - 28-80L - Red Filter - ISO 100 - 1/400th@f10

Wow...

Super shot.

The wet season does offer some superb opportunities.

Perhaps time for us all to get our cameras out and look for stunning skyscapes.

I see you were at the wide end of the lens (28mm).

It is good example of the use of the wide angle to get everything in focus. :D

Is that a red filter on the lens, or post processed?

I seem to remember you saying you did not use filters these days. :o

well thats a nice un, looks like it could be used as a nice book cover,! not joking, if i had a brain and photo express etc on computor id call it "Not all clear in Hua hin"

Thanks for your compliments - much appreciated from yourself and funfun.

The EOS 5D has a black & white mode preset which in turn allows you to dial in either yellow, green, orange or red filters and yield the same results as was when fitting on black and white film. I invariably use either red or orange when looking at skies/storms to bring out and emphasise the drama. The exposure is calculated from the sky and I adjust the foreground later in photoshop/lightroom.

You prompted me to go and check my 40D, and I find it had the same feature.

I really must sit down and read the manual to get to grips with all these features. :o
