Having built our house in Mukdahan we're now looking to put a sala in the garden for outdoor meals etc

I have looked around on the internet but have found nothing locally, does anyone know of traditional sala manufacturers/builders in Isaan. I have seen the ones that fit in the back of a pick-up but we want something a bit bigger. Any help would be appreciated.

Saw a few examples yesterday whilst driving thru Presart including a big one. The wood shop's right at the crossroads on the same corner as 'Harveys Bar.' Sorry that 'v' should really be a 'l' but I cannot bring myself to say that word. :o

If you don't want the smaller transportable ones, have local carpenters make for you in Mukdahan.

Check the upscale housing areas in Muk and if you find some you like - ask the owner for info about who made it.

Or if you find a good builder, find your sala style on internet and print out a pic for him to see!

Best of luck!

Many thanks for the advice I think that will be the best option as transporting from Korat or Surin may

be too complicated and expensive. I saw some great designs down in Rayong last year but we were told that we couldn't take photos! Guess I know why .. :o

My wife just had a new one built. And yes, it is new. Just the materials are old. Between scrounging material and the workers, I think it cost her less than 2,000 baht.

I think I would go for something in the middle of those two.... lower middle would be good .... lower lower middle would be ideal :D

In fact, I'm having trouble to find fault with the one that Gary submitted.

My father-in-law makes his own sala's. Here's one he put together quickly for us when our house was been built. Quite useful at the time but bamboo does not stand up to weather too good and soon all the varnish comes off and the thing looks old in no time at all. That's why they are cheap at the road side to buy. Look ok new but soon darken in hot wet thai weather.
