Having been a wooshty sauce fiend since my father taught me it is the only sauce to be had with cold mutton, I was delighted to find Holbrooks WS in Bangkok.

Last weekend I was shopping in Tesco Lotus and WS was on the list. I spied a Thai made sauce, called 'Gy-Nguang, Formula 2'. It was significantly cheaper than the real stuff so I thought I would give it a try.

It is not as strong as the English concoctions but a decent sauce nevertheless, I just had some with northern sausages and I would certainly try it with some cold roast mutton (if I had any...).

But it is not the real thing.

Beware of cheap imitations.

I love the stuff and Maggi sauce comes second on my list of favourites.

PS You can buy it in Makro.

My wife also said that I should stick to the genuine article but I am the adventurous kind, this is a very good imitation, maybe it is the original the Poms copied from?

I had a topic here a while back looking for a sugar free chili sauce similar to Tabasco. (So it doesn't burn when used as a marinade).

I use a lot of the good old Maggi sauce for that as well, it's the only other marinade sauce that doesn't char up on the grill.

I once made a perfect chilli sauce in Australia, the basic recipe was for Worcestershire sauce and I simply added a case of hot chillies. Never tried it as a marinade though...
