After applying for extension of stay (Thai wife with bank deposit - grandfathered) on May 1 I was given 'till May 30 to collect the final stamp.

In the past 10 years on the same visa I always went to Suan Plu 1-2 days before the appointment date and never had any problems. Today May 28 I went there and was told that I have to come on May 30 only.

Is this new or could this indicate a problem with my application for renewal?

It is quite normal to want you to appear on the exact date - I suspect it is even more important now that they are trying to finish all in the first 30 day period.

These matters do take time and you should not be worried.

If it is not finished on the 30th you will get a further extension.

Thanks lopburi and astral for your re-assurance.

Will see tomorrow (May 30) what I will get.

I was only surprised because this never happened before. Even in the old days when they gave the 45 days under consideration stamps and I went 3-4 days early and always got the extension.

Do you know what is the procedure if, after they have accepted the application and issued the 30 day stamp, they(Immigration) find some documents missing or something not meeting the requirements?

Will they contact me (they always ask for the tel# to be written on the application form) or wait until the appointment date?

It is very unlikely they will turn it down otherwise they would not have accepted it in the first place.

Don't worry.

Thanks for all your replies.

Got my annual extension today without problems.

Observation: why don't they call the numbers in English? Two foreigners were standing next to me (it was standing room only!) unaware that their number had been called. Since they had the number card in their hand I pointed out that they have been called.

But how many people keep on sitting/standing there unaware that their number has come up?

On 28th - the numbers were being called in Thai - then in English

- it is done by a Machine - maybe the Machine had broke down !

The numbers are shown on an Electronic Display - was that not working also?

This is only done for applications.

I was speaking about the procedure when collecting the result of your application. This is certainly non-electronic!

On my visit in June last year it was also being done by town crier in Thai for applications and there was no display operating.
