AdamButler
Hi all, Louisa my wife and I are now living on Koh Lanta and have bought some land here so we are comitted to staying here for a long time. We want to get a dog but have no idea how to find breeders etc. I am sure we could find something in BKK however we hardly ever go there and dont know it very well. We are looking for a mid sized dog with brains that wont mix up with the strays that are all over the place here. Anyone got any ideas?? coventry
I've gone for Cocker Spanials in the past and have currently got 2 Golden Retrievers. If you want to stop dogs running with the pack then get them spayed and enclose your property. Dogs are pack animals and it's in their nature. Personally, pure breeds are too much trouble and, if, next time I'll get Soi dogs. Less troublesome and easy to replace in the event of road accident. If you're in for a pure breed then the starting place would be your local vet. He'll have contacts for breeders plus advice on the type that will suit you. Best of luck. Looks like shes half / part alsation... Guesstimate is she will end up 75% sized of a full alsation He rescued it from a road accident, vet checkups etc but lives in an apartment and simply cant keep it.. If no adopted home can be found its the soi dog foundation for her.. PM me for contact.. Pup is on Phuket but I am sure she could be moved somehow. Save a dog from the streets.. tamsin
And whilst we're on the subject of greedy dog breeders, there's a farang here on Phuket who breeds Pit Bulls. I thought they were supposed to be illegal, although he says his best customers are the police I've told him that although he says his dogs are well trained, this particular breed attracts a certain type of owner sometimes, and one muppet in the soi next to mine had bought one of his pups, didn't train it and it recently took the calf muscle out of some poor guy's leg, and attacked another neighbour's very sweet Rotweiler I also told him it won't be too long before one of his 'sold on' pups is left to it's own devices, as some farang here are wont to do when they relocate, and breed in with the nice soi dogs. Thus making them not so nice after all. In the meantime. To the OP please give a soi dog a home. I have a friend who recently took on a blind, one eared, dog with skin cancer to give him the best time of what life he has left, after he'd been abandoned and abused by staff at an office somewhere throwing rocks at him, because he was mai suay. Nice. He's the loveliest thing. Always greets with a wag of his tail and so happy to be out of the dog home. Take a look at Phuket Soi Dog web site, you'll see what I mean

AdamButler
Interested in that Pup ?? Not sure yet what we are going to do , we probably will come to Phuket in the next few days and look at Soy dogs and may end up in Bangkok. The pup you are discribing sounds as if it might be a little large for us when it has grown up.

I'm guessing it's crossed with a Thai dog? We have 3 dogs, one of them is a Thai mutt. Great little dog, loves ppl, especially kids. Thai dogs cope with the heat and are very strong so the vets visits are rare.

Bad enough that the Thai's do it with the situation as it is with dogs here, bet he's one of the Great British unwashed that needs a big nasty dog to match his image, i'd be on the phone to immigration if i were you. Skyline
I agree, Try any of the Soi dog rescue foundations or find a dog that needs a home locally. If you really must have a pedigree dog, there are a few good, commited, specialist breed kennels around.A visit to the kennels should tell you if the dogs are happy, clean and well bred. Pick up a Thai dog magazine from any newstand/magazine shop, plenty to choose from.

AdamButler
We have found a cute puppy that has been abandoned and is being looked after for a while by a Farang here in Lanta but cant keep it. We are probably going to take him/her. Thanks to all the posts on Thaivisa we have not travelled to BKK and bought a dog from the market. And we will not now. smileah
SCAD is the best place to look. Run by some amazing people. And lots of great dogs! We resuced a Thai stray and have had no problems whatsoever. In fact, he is the most loving and loyal dog I have ever had the delight of owning.
