What's The Best Thing To Do When My Job And Non Immigrant "b" Visa Finish?

Recommended Posts

My non immigrant "B' visa expires on 24 June 2008.

My teaching job finishes on 30 June 2008.

I want to look for a new job in Bangkok.

Can my "B" visa be extended until I find a new job

or do I have to change to a tourist visa?

If so, how long is a tourist visa valid?

How many times can I renew a tourist visa?

Can I change to a tourist visa at Immigration Bureau or do I have to leave Thailand?

Please advise my best option.

Thank you for your help.

You cannot extend your non-B visa until you find a new job.

You cannot change your non-B visa to a tourist visa, but you can go to a Thai consulate and get a tourist visa.

A tourist visa will allow you to travel to Thailand within 90 days from the date of issue. On arrival in Thailand, you will receive permission to stay for 60 days. You can apply at an immigration office for a 30-day extension, making it possible to stay for a total of 90 days after entering on a tourist visa.

You cannot renew a tourist visa, but you can again go to a Thai consulate and apply for a new tourist visa. Based on recent posts by members, double-entry tourist visas are available at the Thai consulate in Vientiane:

Only for 7 days if you have an extension of stay based on business. If you can find a job in the meantime, it is possible to extend longer in some cases.

If you have a non immigrant visa obtained at an Embassy. If the large stamp expires on June 30th and it’s a multiple. … by crossing the border before June 30th will give you another 90 days.

As you can see there is a difference between a non B and an extension of stay permit. The non B is not tied to a work permit while the extension of stay is.

or do I have to change to a tourist visa?

Change would mean going to the border and get a 30 day tourist visa exemption stamp or to a Embassy and get a tourist visa. It cannot be done inside Thailand.

If so, how long is a tourist visa valid?

Depends on your nationality.

How many times can I renew a tourist visa?

Up to the discretion of the Embassy.

Can I change to a tourist visa at Immigration Bureau or do I have to leave Thailand?

Must leave Thailand.
