Okay, I stayed at this hotel in March which is mid/high season and the area around the Amari Trang was dead! What I mean to say is that there was plenty of restaurants but they were all closed. Pak Meng has a pier where the boat trips go to Emarald cave Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai, Koh Maa etc. I think this place survives solely on the daytrippers going to the islands. After the boats return the tourists go home and so the restaurants shut up shop. The Amari Trang however is an excellent hotel. rooms are very spacious and modern and the communal areas are beautiful. The pool is massive too. Eating at the hotel was very expensive. The hotel itself is located some 2/3km away from the seafront and if you don't have a car then you're knackered!

Sorry that should read 2/3 km away from the bars/restaurants on the seafront. The Amari looks out onto the sea.

thanks poolie. ANyway, is there a readily availbale transport to the bars/restaurants from the hotel itself, like tuktuk or taxi? I want to make sure, how far is the beachshore from this hotel? Or its just overlooking the ocean while you just splurge in its pool? In in case, is there a car rental in Trang itself?

If you walk out past the pool the hotel has wide open grounds which lead onto the beach and you can look out to the islands. Its very picturesque. I've got some great pics but I cant load them. If you're interested I can send you them by email if you PM me.

Cheers
