Worried! Audio Equipment & Psu Running Very Hot

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My E-MU/Creative Labs 1616M PCI (soundcard with external dock for interfacing lots of audio equipment with the PC) is running very hot. Much hotter than any of my other audio equipment (Yamaha, Roland etc).

I've read all the threads concerning voltage problems in Thailand and followed the excellent advice from members such as Crossy. Yesterday I went out and bought several Powercom TCA-1200 AVR's for all my studio equipment.

Using the TCA-1200 with the E-MU unit hasn't made a difference to the operating temperature. I'm worried becuase this unit wasn't cheap (29,000 baht) and I don't want to fry it!

I'm using the PSU that shipped with the product, spec is:

Input: 110-240v 50/60Hz 0.5a

Creative Labs Asia region technical support are a joke - completely useless.

Can anyone advise?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! (Beer available to anyone in the north BKK area!)

Oh there is beer involved?

Did you buy it here? Is it still under warranty: If it is return it.

If you can't return it for any reason:

Try running it through a power converter with 120volts instead of 240v.

Are you working in an airconditioned room? If you aren't that would help (but maybe not enough). Try keepinig a fan blowing on it.

In the literature for the device is there a stated operating temperature?

Can you call a help desk from another region?
