Hello all,

Is anybody familiar with prepayment electricity meter? It's the electricity meter that use keypad or card to fill up credit from place like point-of-sales or bank, then you can use electricity until it becomes empty.

I believe some people in the U.K., Ireland, and Australia have heard of it. I want to know if it will be a good system for business uses in Thailand.

For those people who have used this system, please answer questions on the poll.

Best regards,

Pitipongj

In the UK there is a serious stigma associated with having a prepayment meter, they are usually installed in homes/businesses that have been unable to pay a post payment bill.

Yes we had one for the above reason.

The electricity is somewhat more expensive.

It is a major pain in the behind to go and find an outlet to buy credit on a cold, wet, dark sunday evening, often we had to drive 10 miles to find a working outlet. OK the meter allowed you 5 pounds credit (what they called 'emergency' credit) but that was immediately recovered from any reload so loading a fiver was not enough to get your juice back on.

Going on holiday also introduced pain, obviously you need to load your meter with enough credit to keep the fridge and freezer going whilst away otherwise you return to a freezer full of rotting food and a tank full of dead tropical fish (did that too).
