My Thai wife is planning to have our baby in Thailand and we are currently looking for a Hospital and an OBGYN to deliver.

Currently her first choice is Central General in Bangkok (I think it is in or near Bangken) since it is close to her family's home. However, I'm not very familiar with it and was hoping someone might have an experience with this hospital they could share. I would be very grateful.

Our short-list also includes Bumrungrad, whose reputation is superb, although traffic would be atrocious going back and forth for her parents; and Phayathai 2 Hospital in Bangkok (I think it is close to the Victory Monument), which is closer than Bumrungrad and based on the website the amenities appear to be very nice. Any experiences with Phayathai would also be greatly appreciated.

Any suggestions on OBGYN's would also be greatly appreciated and any additional hospitals that I didn't list above that might be in the area.

Thanks again for your input!

Cheers!

You could try Vichaiyut hospital on Rama VI.

It's a big, and one of the oldest, private hospital, aimed at Thai people, not really farangs. The only drawback is that not everybody can speak English.

For example in the nursery, the doctors (obgyn and paediatrician) were speaking English, as well as the head nurse, but not the other nurses, so it depends on how this is important for you. It was not really a problem for me: complications prevented me from being in the delivery room anyway, and after the delivery I was getting enough of what was being said.

Otherwise service was absolutely great, everybody took really good care of us and the baby.

Cost was 78,000 THB for a C-section with epidural nerve block with 5 days at hospital, complications prevented the use of their delivery packages.

I think the packages are between 30 and 40,000 for natural delivery, 2 days at hospital, and 53,000 for C-section and 3 days at hospital. 2% discount if you pay cash.

What's wrong with government hospitals ? You only pay for the private room, free if stay in ward. Thais have been having babies in them for years. My daughter was born in one and so will my next, if all goes well with conception.
