Why do you not just check the exchange rates posted at your bank and compare them with outside exchange rates , pick the best rate and run with the money .

Have checked the rates at the siam bank booth outside bank, didnt know if there is a different rate when you go into the bank and pay the sterling straight into your account.

I do not have a bank account here but I have read here that some or all (not sure) banks may charge an additional fee to withdraw converted baht currency from money that was deposited as foreign currency.

You need to do further research to confirm if this is accurate.

There is no point comparing rates at the same bank , what is outside is same-same inside , go to a money exchange kiosk and/or a different bank to check on DIFFERENT exchange rates. All banks have a money exchange fee , but they can vary from day to day and bank to bank, you can look up exchange rates on the internet also which will give you some idea of the market rates .

Once converted it is the same as any other baht - there is no further charge.

Perhaps I misunderstand the OP. I thought he wanted to keep the money in a Thai bank in Sterling and converting it as needed versus converted it all prior to depositing it.
