Tricky Problem

Featured Replies

Any suggestions would be welcome to my problem.

The mouse arrow is stuck right in the middle of the screen, easy you might think. Well its not, without going into the whole story, the last thing i have done is wipe my hard drive with Window Washers total eraser, you have to make a disk and it wipes the whole drive.

I then updated the BIOS from the ASUS website,as i read it might be a BIOS virus, that went well.

I then reinstalled Window, and bugger me its still stuck in the middle of the screen, even without the mouse plugged in, the hour glass appears if something is happening, but the mouse will not move.

Of course i have tried different mouses,USB and the other one.

Have you try another USB Devices and they work, not recognize only? And did Windows recognize the mouse itself?

If nothing of this, I would suggest to check the MB and if you still have warranty on it, claim by the supplier.

Cheers.

Looks like a mainboard problem, although strange a PS2 mouse ain't working either, they're on a different controller (albeit similar) then the USB ports...

Are Mouse and keyboard (KB) linked in some way?

I had a similar problem, the mouse was behaving in strange ways. Tried 3 different mice (Mouses????) - same thing.

KB appeared to be working OK but when I replaced it all was okay. When I tried the old KB on an other PC the mouse also behaved erratically.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to load a new version of windows xp to see if this helps, the USB keyboard is ok, also tried a different one to see if that is the problem.

Something that does happen is a "found new hardware" box opens but i cant operate it as the tab button does not work on it.

Looks like I'll have to take it in to be done.

If you have a live Linux CD, that would tell you if the fault is with the operating system or the computer.

Problem solved by taking out the BIOS battery, then resetting on boot up , thanks to those that came up with suggestions .
