I'm sure many have noticed when eating out in Restaurants in LOS that there tends to be a dominance of gay thai males working as wait staff. I'm wondering if there is a reason for this because its quite noticeable. What draws gay males to this profession say more than others?

I see a lot of obvious gay males in almost EVERY profession in Thailand. How about department store clerks? Bank tellers? 7-11 cashiers? They're everywhere and I love it, because it reminds me that Thai tolerance allows people to be themselves...something I think all of us can appreciate.

Gay Tolerance is great I do agree and its a model for the rest of the world. I just seem to notice more gay male wait staff than other professions I encounter on a regular basis.

You have never noticed predominance of gay men working in bars in England or wherever you are from?

I would suppose it's because it's a good way of meeting people.

But I agree with your other responant that in Thailand (and I have only been there on holiday, I don't live there), there are openly gay people in every walk of life and nobody seems to give a shit.

Nice.

Restaurants are great places for cruising in Thailand. Actually, that may be half the point for some of the workers- find someone tolerably good looking with a bit of money to throw around and give up the drudgery.

Heard a story from a friend- he was at some place near Silom and asked the obviously gay, cute waiter out- the waiter didn't have a phone but called the guy later- 1st question: will you buy me a mobile phone? that was the end of that. but next time the guy went to the restaurant, the waiter gave HIM his new mobile phone number... sometimes pie in the sky DOES come for these guys...

Dear Guys,

Nice to read all your msg about Thai gay.

Yes, I'm thai. Born and living here.

I never touch my feet out of my country but I've some

foriegner friends here and outer.

My English is not good like natural hope you guys understand me.

I understand what r u talking about and I would like to let

you know some about Thai gay in Restaurant.

My sweety are a waiter at Telephone pub, Silom Soi.4 Bangkok for

more than 6 yrs. He graduate from university here and use to work

as a marketing officer for more than 5 yrs.

He work love his present occupation because of he love to service people like you. A people who not care and afraid that he is gay.

Some of Thai gay who work as a waiter doesn't think like him. Because of they have a difference way comes from. So, some of them have a bad behave but if you understand them as you are. You will realize that they just want to have a better life which they can stand on their own legs.

Anyhow, some do a bad behave to foriegner and I don't like them, too. They make less visitor come to my country... and less my chance to practice my English.. ;-)

Guys, I hope you have a good friendship in Thailand and have a good time when you visit.

Yes, welcome, RobinTh.

Waiters in the farang gay bars/restaurants are another matter entirely- because of their lifestyle they're almost entirely "butterflies"- they have access to the whole bar-going community, whether they like it or not. Good luck if you think you're the ONLY boyfriend of a Soi 4 waiter! On the plus side, since they can go with so many people, they usually go with the ones they like, not just for money [though it's not unknown too for some of them to turn a few tricks!]

Knew a farang who was dating a Telephone waiter last year- the waiter was asking him for money- turned out the waiter was spending it on even younger Thai gay boys!
