Sinus Stuffiness In Pregnancy

Featured Replies

Any advice please on how to cope/relieve stuffiness in pregnancy. I am now in week 18 and have had nasal stuffiness since week 12. Im relieved to know it is not uncommon with around 20% of pregnant women experiencing the same (although I never had it with my 1st), however I was devestated to learn it will probably last until delivery :-(

I use a netti pot everyday, sleep as upright as I can, have a vapouriser on overnight with eucalyptus oil and sleep with a blindfold which sits tightly across the bridge of my nose. All this used to work when I had a cold but Im finding it all pretty useless reliveing the pregnancy stuffiness I am experiencing. It has gotten so bad I an unable to sleep more than 3 hours each night as I wake up with a bone dry mouth and great difficulty swallowing due to the pressure from my nose and ears. Ive also tried sleeping in different rooms.

Can anyone here advise something I haven't tried already? I just dont think I can cope with this for another 20 weeks!!!

I have never been pregnant but have had cronic sinusitis all my life and the things that made it worse were all the sticks and vaporisers that are so popular especially in Thailand. They actually dried my nose even more. The only thing that clears my nose and head is simply steam. I don't even use eucalyptus oil, I just breathe the vapour from hot water for at least twenty minutes every day (you can even combine it with a facial cleansing session to catch two birds with one stone..). I have heard that Epsom salts diluted in hot water work well. Also, snorting sea-water or salty water is very effective. I hope you get better
