Does anyone know if it cost more to make a wire transfer from a credit card than it does from a debit card?

I am not sure if this is dealt with as a cash advance. Besides the higher rate to payback the card? Citibank no problem Bof A won't give any advice online.

Thanks for the help!!!!!

From a debit card is definitely cheaper than a credit card. From a DB you'll get charged a transaction fee and lose a bit on the exchange rate. The CC incurrs a fee, the exchange rate and the cash advance interest rate. Depending on the volume you're transferring you could just go to the bank and do a TT.

If you still want to make sure just call the bank. Bank of Asia was bought out by UOB 2 years ago though. You can find the number on their webpage www.uob.co.th

Anthony is correct and I'm sure BofA will charge a currency conversion fee on top of the other charges mentioned. BofA charges exorbitant fees for international ATM use. If I remember correctly it is 2% for the conversion fee and $5 each usage. If you withdraw $500, fees add up to around $25. I only made the mistake once and now use my credit union or my Charles Schwab's checking account that charge no fees other than the ATM fees charged by the Thai bank.

If you are a member of a western bank, use their ATM card. Mine charges $3 per transaction (max $400). Not sure about the conversion. I have to investigate that part!

Unless you have some other card from Schwab, the Schwab ATM card I have, will reimburses all fees except the foreign currency fee. The only problem is that VISA does not separate the ATM fee from the total withdrawal amount in your account so you need to call them to get any fees reimbursed. I just recently called them to get a small ATM fee and as goodwill gesture, the customer rep gave me a $5 credit so I wouldn't need to call for awhile.

Unless you cannot get this type of checking account in your country, why on earth would anyone still carry an ATM card that charges an ATM fee like BoA or does not reimburse all ATM fees (usually except foreign currency fee). I use Fidelity and Schwab ATM cards and both reimburse all ATM fees except foreign currency fee.

Recently traveling around Cambodia and Vietnam for 40 days, I saved almost $25. Since I don't like to carry a lot of cash, I take out enough money to cover a week's expense unless I know I will be in an area without ATM machines.

I hope this small gold laying goose remains around for a long time to come. :o
