I fabricated one of my own - albeit not a bluetooth one - by doing some splicing and soldering on a FM tramsmitter intended for IPod / music players and a "small talk" handsfree wire. It works fine out in the country, but it is basically impossible to find a "clean" enough FM frequency to use it in Bangkok.

Indeed. I have an FM transmitter in the car for my iPod. I have yet to find a single clear frequency that is usable in Bangkok. There are quite a few unoccupied frequencies, but transmitter off-frequency bleed is really bad for many stations.
