Hi everyone, I am an Aussie coming to Thailand and would like to know how I can spend the longest time possible in 1 year. Some people say that you can only spend 180 days in a 12 month period. Is this true? Are there any ways to get around this.

I will be visiting friends and would like to stay longer than 180 days. I have also heard that I could get a multiple entry visa for 2 lots of 60 days with extensions of 30 days each. Could I combine those multi entry visas with some 30 day visa exempt visits.

For example: fly into BKK using the first multiple entry visa for 60 days then get an extension for 30 days. When that expires, go to Laos and spend perhaps a few weeks, then re-enter Thailand on a 30 day visa exemption. When that expires go to Laos again or some other country for a few weeks, then re-enter on a 30 day visa exemption. When that expires once again do a border crossing, then re-enter Thailand using the second multiple entry visa for 60 days, then get an extension for 30 days before leaving for Australia.

Is all that possible. Any advice would be more than appreciated.

Thanks and Cheers,

Jessie

Not quite right.

You would have to use you 2 Tourist Visa entries back to back apart from the 30 day extension in the middle.

You can then do the trips to Lao and come back with the 30 day entry stamps. The rule is a maximum of 90 days in a 6 month period using these 30 day entries.

Can then go to Lao and get another 2 entry tourist visa and do it all again.

Or you can just get visas from Lao and not do the 30 day entries.

There is no limit on how many times you can enter providing you have a visa.

I see the good doctor has put a spanner in the works.

Not being an Aussie I would not know if you can get a double or not. If not get a single and do the same.

Thanks for your help.

So does that mean that I can stay longer than 180 days in a 12 month period ?

Using your method above, all I do after my initial double entry visas expire is head to laos and get another double entry visa for a further 2 peroiods of 60 days plus 30 day extensions. This brings the total of days in Thailand to 360 days. Id this correct ?
