Need some help and advice which will be very appreciated.

I have been employed by the same company for 5 years.

Provided with a work permit and my passport has an extension of stay that both get renewed in August.

I get a 1 month holiday break in October.

I can get a re-entry stamp.

My problem is that my aged parents in the UK now need help.

If I am delayed more that one month my employers will not be pleased and I could be out of a job.

(1) If my employers became difficult with me being delayed.

Could they cancel my work permit and would the extension of stay be void.

(2) As I would at this stage be in the UK. Would it be wise to visit the Thai Consulate and apply for a 1 year multi - entry O visa.

In Thailand I bought a Condo 4 years ago, have bank accounts, and yes! a Thai GF.

To add to this: If my parents where in agreement. I would like them to return with me to Thailand.

(3) What visa would be required on the chance they wanted to remain here.

Thank you in anticipation .

1. Your on an extension of stay, so if you get fired you have to return the WP to the labour office and your extention of stay would be cancelled.

2. So far you still are employed. But based on what would you apply for a non-O visa?

3. If your parents are over 50 they could come on a retirement visa, provided one of them has an income of 65,000 baht a month or they can put up 800,000 on a Thai bankaccount.

But are you sure your parents would want to live in Thailand? It si a very big step.

I know nothing about work permits etc.

If you can hang on till October when you have you holiday. You can bring your parents as Mario says providing one of them is over 50.

It's early morning here and I'm a little slow on the start-up but...............

No problem as I see it.

If you have a wp, visa and re-entry permit why would you be delayed? Unless you stay longer than your permitted vacation break then it is a personal thing for yourself and your employer to come to some kind of deal/compromise.

They could cancel your wp and I believe the extension would also become void.

(2) As I would at this stage be in the UK. Would it be wise to visit the Thai Consulate and apply for a 1 year multi - entry O visa.

I would say yes to the visa dependant on basis but you would be returning without work. How confidant are you on landing another job?

To add to this: If my parents where in agreement. I would like them to return with me to Thailand.

Mario answered this one. If your parents are elderly it may not be a good idea to bring them to a foriegn land with all the attendant health care problems. Okay the hospitals are great if you have the requisite health insurance but even then they can be a bit daunting to elderly, easily confused/alarmed, folks. Then there is the heat, older people without experience of the tropics find it harder to acclimatise.

Thank you in anticipation .

If your parents need help, and I assume they are getting on a bit, and you are the only person to give them that help then you are in between a rock and a hard place. Taking them to Thailand may appear your best option, I assume you have no desire to relocate back to the UK, but you may want to talk to social services regarding home help and medical visits.

My sister and I were in a similar position regards my mother a couple of years back although she was almost completely incapacitated. The advice we got from social services is that it is inappropriate for close relatives to look after their parents (regarding the more personal needs) and also, without the correct training, potentially dangerous.

You do have an advantage that both your parents are alive but unless at least one of them is reasonably active that may also give double the problems. Is your GF going to be home with them all day when you are working? If not they can become bored and depressed very quickly without their home comforts and friends.

Sorry if this sounds a little negative but it is a big move to relocate from the UK to Thailand even for younger people. The older we get the more set in our ways we become and any change become a potential conflict issue.

I would think that your job is your first priority, unless you or your parents are loaded with cash.

What would happen if you managed to bring them over, but you had to find a new job? This would cause more stress on you, as well as the TGF.

Make sure that all of your ducks are lined up for you and your GF before trying to take on your parents as well.

Good luck.

Thank you Mario, Platinum, Lite Beer and Innovation.

My parents now are 83/84 and everything you have mentioned will be a big issue.

One month will not be sufficient time (maybe 3 months).

Based on that thought I could ...

(a) Resign and hand in the WP and then have (am I right) 7 days to leave the country.

(:o As mentioned come to some arrangement with my employer.

© Do nothing; ie go to the UK leaving employer to cancell my WP / Visa

1. What affect could / would © have on me for the future (black listing ?)

Having actioned (a) and to give me time...

2. If do a visa run to say Loas: Can I expect a multi entry visa for 60 days that can be extended.

3. Will this Loas visa then be used with a re - entry to cover me for say the 3+ months while in the UK

which can continued on returning to Thailand.

4. Or disregard (3. the Loas visa ) and get a 12 month multi - entry O visa

5.. If I no longer wish to work in Thailand is the 12 months multi - entry O the best to go for.

cheers Thanks for your time

If you are pretty certain that you will delay your return from the UK, the sensible thing wold be to discuss this matter with your employer. If they are not helpful, then plan to resign and hand back your work permit immediately before you return to the UK.

If you follow this approach, then everything is straightforward, legal and above board.

I understand that the Thai Consulate in Hull are very accomodating as regards 1 year multiple entry B or O visas, you could aim to get a visa just before you come back to Thailand.

If you are in the UK you can even post your passport to them and they will send it back to you.

With this approach you have no messing around with visa runs to Laos and you can stay in the UK as long as you need to take care of your parents and figure out the best solution.
