Hi

I am a British citizen have lived in thailand for 20 years under a work visa.

Having stopped working in Thailand I wish to get a multiple entry retirement visa.

I have been told the first step is to enter Thailand on a Type O visa.

I am now in Malaysia and will be going to the Thail consulate in KL next week to do this.

My questions are

1. Will there be any problems getting a type O visa to enter Thailand.

2.What documents do I need for this visa.

Any advise appreciated

Regards

Are you talking about getting a years stay based on retirement by applying at Immigration in Thailand?

You should be able to get a Non O Visa in KL. Just tell them you need it to extend it in Thailand for retirement.

If they will not issue then you can still do it with a normal Tourist Visa or even the 30 day on arrival stamp.

It just makes it a bit easier if you have the Non O to start with , but it is not essential as they can be converted to a Non O at Immigration in Thailand.

Hi Lite Beer

Just one more thing

Lets say for some reason I cannot get a Type O visa and go for normal 30 day stay or tourist visa. I plan to enter Thailand on single ticket.

Is that a problem as I have heard they need a return air ticket and maybe hotel reservation before they let you in.

Many thanks

The problem seems to be getting on the flight to start with. Assuming you are flying.

If you have a Tourist Visa there should be no problem.

You would then have to Visit Immigration in Thailand with at least 21 days left on it and convert it to a Non O (fee 200 Baht).

A couple of weeks before that expires go back to Immigration and apply for the retirement extension.

All this assumes you meet the financial requirements for the extension.

65,000 Baht a month income OR 800,000 Baht in the bank (which must be there 3 months before you apply)

OR a combination of both.

You should be able to get a Non O anyway.
