Hi all

I'm new to Thaivisa forums but I have been a regular browser and also a member of various other forums. I'm a local in Hua-Hin and after four years I'm yet to meet any fellow South Africans living here. So, the big questions is......................are there any other South Africans living here in Thailand?

As I'm sure there will be, maybe one of you can tell me if there is anywhere one can buy those all time South African favourites. I have not had Boereworse for almost 10 years now and would just love to get my hands on some. Biltong is no problems as I have been making biltong for just over twenty years and I continue making it to this day. In fact, I have a load of it curing at the moment and while I'm typing this, the smell is making me drool......lol. By the way, if there are any of you out there and you have been searching for Biltong, just pm me.

Another thing I'm looking for is "fish paste" which I was not even able to get while living in the UK. Lets face it, we all know just how good some of that is on toast.

Well, now I'll wait and see if any South Africans see this post :o

And I thought it was just the Aussie's with bad taste - vegemites and all :D

Hi Biltong

I am an ex pat SA living on Phuket for nearly 15 years now and am happy to brag that I have more Biltong, Droeer wors, Simonsberg Feta Cheese and Boerewors in my fridge than I ever had back home.

For Boerewors we get it from Out Of Africa Restaurant in K.L. Our friends own this restaurant and they make their own Boerewors as well as an excellent Oxtail stew. For details on how to contact them please feel welcome to PM me.

Totsiens!

Well, you can always make your own.

... not sure how authentic these two recipes are, but this site has some really great sausage recipes.... just about everything around the world (look in the alphabetical list for a complete listing).

Here is the link to African sausages:

If that doesn't work for some reason, try these direct links to the pdf files:

Have fun....

Thanks Chef for the recipes. The 1 from Glenn Shapely seems to have the better ingredients. I am very lucky as I get mine from KL which makes me a little lazy to make them myself.

Nevertheless will give it a try someday.

Hi Chantal, I see you from SA. I"m planning to move to Thailand at the end of the year. I plan to also stay in Phuket. I'm actually coming over in September to see if I can find a place to stay - Rent a house, condo. Perhaps you could let me know if you happy there as I see you have been staying in Thailand for 15 years. The Visa story worries me a bit as I read so much on the internet but don't really know what to do. Perhaps you could advise me?? (if you would be so kind to do so??)
