Turn On Desk Top But Only Response Is A Beeping Noise?

Featured Replies

My son's desktop is positioned quite close to an outside door that is left open when they use it (wireless connection) though they close the door if rain is blowing in (as far as I know).

So the problem is that, as of this morning, the only response after turning it on is a beeping noise, the power lights come on but nothing on the monitor. The monitor displays it's trademark and then goes blank, therefore it appears to be a problem with the computer not the monitor. I guess this is obvious as the "beeping" is coming from the computer box. Apparently the virus software expired last night, could this have anything to do with it? I should have checked but the virus software on the laptops is still valid.

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Hi Reimar,

It is "One Long Beep, Two Short Beeps = Video Problem"

Unfortunately, I do not know what I can do to correct a video problem, can you suggest some actions for me to try?

Thanks

Take it to a PC repair shop.

Buy a new video card? Not expensive.

Just try to remove and move back the Video Card. May you also use an Pencil Rubber for to clean the connector feets by rubbing them with the rubber.

Cheers.

Thanks, Reimar but I think dotcom may have the answer for someone who has minimal pc know how like Me.

Actually in my experience, those 'beeps' can be misleading...

I've had the "GFX" beeping, but by re-seating my RAM the problem has gone away, also sound cards.

My advice, would be to strip down the PC (take out RAM, GFX card and any other cards inside) - give it all a quick clean (i just use a soft cloth to clean the elements and then use air to clean the dust/crap off the cards/chips themselves) - and then put it all back together.

If your not savvy enough to attempt this yourself, ask a friend to help you

I think the beep codes can be different depending on BIOS manufacturer so be careful.

Try connecting the monitor to another port if you have one. Or try another monitor (at internet cafe if no friends).

Open the pc and make sure graphics card hasn't become disconnected in some way.

Try booting in safe mode.

Try booting from windows cd.

Try praying.

That is correct
