I am married to a thai girl and have a non O visa. I want to extend it for a year and need to know what documents i need. I have done this before having 400,000B in the bank but don't have this option now.

I have an income from the UK but it only started recently so don't have 3 months bank statements only 1 so far. I can prove a large sum of money in a UK bank.

so the questions i ask are:

1. do i need a letter from the british embassy proving my income? if so how can i prove this?

2. can i prove a large sum of money in a uk bank and extend on that? (i realy dont want to transfer money to thailand and leave it a bank here)

3. what documents do i need for thai immigration if all is successful?

all your help is appreciated

thanks

1. If your income is from the UK the embassy has to issue a letter veryfing that. The rpoof of your incoem is what the embassy demands. Just call them and ask what they will need.

2 and 3. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/2notice/rtp606EN.pdf

page 8, point 7.17

So, no. You can't use the money on a bank in the UK. But your income will do, if your wife and you together earn more than 40,000 a month.

Also take photo's of you and your wife inbside and outside the house, showing that you live together. Take your wife with you to immigration and better call before you go about exactly what documents they want. It will vary from immigration office to immigration office.

1. As said you need letter from Embassy and they will require proof of employment of some kind I suspect.

2. You can not use bank account but if drawing fixed interest Embassy may be able to include in your income statement.

3. If you did it before the documents should be about the same - passport/departure card/copies, income proof, her ID card/home register copies, photos as mentioned above. And the spouse will also have to attend/sign paperwork.

For some it seems to be more convenient to allow wife to have the 40k required income as Thai can make back payments of tax to prove the income without any problem.

In my case they visited, and wanted a neighbour or friend to sign a statement confirming that we do live together.

You might not even know that they visited. I went to get my extension of stay stamp yeaterday, after the 30 day wait, and I never had a visit from immigration. Maybe they came, maybe they didn't. Don't stress about it too much.

They definately want a map though, I took a print-out from Google maps and she told me to draw a version in front of her. I also had to supply a seperate document to verify my embassies stamp (My embassy used a black stamp on the income verification letter, so it looked like a copy), lucky I had another letter from my embassy in my bag that was on their official letterhead. She accepted that and everything else went smoothly.
